Fall Successes...
This fall, Child's Voice has much to celebrate. Student successes, family involvement and exciting events! Student success is directly related to family and parent involvement. We see this every day in the classrooms. On Monday, November 5th through Thursday, November 8th, parent-teacher conferences are held at Child's Voice. This is an excellent time to meet with the student's teacher, learn about what's been happening in the classroom and discuss the child's progress. Don't forget...the upcoming Gala will be held on Saturday, October 27th. For more on this great night, please CLICK HERE. We hope you are joining us! Supporting Voices
Child's Voice is incredibly fortunate to have wonderful support from the community...in Wood Dale and beyond! In September, the Sunset Ridge Country Club held a golf tournament to benefit Child's Voice. This event raised over $3,000 to support the programs benefiting our students! As mentioned earlier, the Ryan's Run 5K and Kiddie Sprint will benefit the Audiology Center and its new infant and newborn testing program with over $15,000 to purchase hearing aids. On Wednesday, October 17th, the Schaumburg AM Rotary Club visited Child's Voice to hold their monthly meeting and tour our great School and Early Intervention (EI) Programs. We are grateful for their support earlier this year of the EI Program!
The Onion Pub & Brewery is partnering with Child's Voice for a Dine & Share. Once a month on Weds., October 24, Weds., November 28 and Weds., December 12 (with a coupon) 10% of food and beverage sales will be donated to Child's Voice!! Coupons will be available on the Child's Voice website, by email and by CLICKING HERE. The Onion Pub & Brewery is located at 22221 N. Pepper Rd. in Lake Barrington. Invite your friends and join other Child's Voice families in supporting the kiddos! Chicago Combined Federal Campaign Do you know a federal employee? Someone that works at a Post Office? The IRS? A social security office or other federal/government office? They are likely participating in the Chicago Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). Child's Voice is one of many beneficiaries for this great effort! Please encourage them to choose Child's Voice. Our CFC number is #48821.

Getting to Know...
Child's Voice Leadership
Wendy Adler, Principal This month, Child's Voice had a visit from the founder of the curriculum, Jean Moog. It's ironic that this month we feature Principal Wendy as these visitors were just here and Jean Moog is the reason Wendy is at Child's Voice. In 1998, Jean was recruiting teachers from Clarke School in Massachusetts, where Wendy was completing her student teaching. Being a newlywed, Wendy thought it would be a great adventure, having never been to Chicago before...and fourteen years later, she's leading the School Team! Wendy became the School Coordinator in 2007 and Principal when she completed her leadership degree in 2010. Wendy studied sociology at Adelphi University in New York for her undergraduate work. She received her Master's in Education of the Deaf from Smith College in Massachusetts and her Master's in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Lewis University, here in Illinois. When not at Child's Voice, Wendy loves to spend time with her children - Jacob (11), Elana (11) and Grace (8). Wendy, Geoff, her husband, their kiddos reside in Aurora, Illinois. However, Wendy is originally from New Jersey and Geoff hails from Boston. Thank you to Wendy for all you do to make the School Program a success each day.

From Dr. Michele...
Peter Drucker is known as the 'father of modern management'. His business writings remain widely read and highly influential, even now, six years after his death at the age of 95. I am discovering that this famed guru was also an expert in life management along with business management. The book Living in More Than One World: How Peter Drucker's Wisdom Can Inspire and Transform Your Life by Bruce Rosenstein gave an inside view.
One strategy, I find I do in my personal life as well as the Executive Director of Child's Voice, is to FOCUS FORWARD. At school, it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks and activities. But, I have made purposeful thought to spend more time focusing on future opportunities and how to make those opportunities happen. I know the future of Child's Voice is more important than the distractions and errands that absorb much of our time in the present. I am mindful not to treat the future as a low priority just because it has not yet arrived. In fact, we all at Child's Voice are focusing forward. We are continuously seeking ways to improve our instruction, student achievement and family involvement. We remain on the 'cutting edge' in technology use in the classroom, expanding Audiological services (particularly with the soon-to-be announced PEHDI program) and data driven evaluations. The staff are dedicated professionals that are life-long-learners and are active in on-going professional development in their specific fields.
Continuing to FOCUS FORWARD, our Board of Directors is constantly exploring and seeking new board members. The Board strives to find individuals that embrace our mission and vision; who will contribute their expertise to enhance Child's Voice growth.
I ask you to join my personal and professional quest in FOCUSING FORWARD. Now is the time to get involved, stay committed and make it your priority to guarantee the future of Child's Voice today.

Parents Corner
| Some great ideas and tips from our staff.
Reading Aloud "The Read Aloud Handbook" by Jim Trelease. This book is a great resource for learning about the benefits of reading aloud, tips on how to read aloud effectively and shares some good book suggestions.
"Reading aloud is a particularly effective tool in stretching children's attention spans. Just keep in mind that endurance in readers, like runners, is not built overnight; start slowly and build gradually." |
