A MESSAGE FROM THE
SSMO SUPERIOR GENERAL

Dear Family and Friends,

The season of Advent is upon us! Advent is observed in Christian churches as a time of anticipation and preparation for the coming of Jesus as celebrated at Christmas. A second meaning and celebration of Advent is the anticipation of the second coming of Christ at the end of time.

The Advent and Christmas season is upon us.

We wish you and your loved ones peace, joy and happiness.

Meet the Sisters: Sisters Theresa and Mary Ann Hathaway

One wanted to be a Sister from an early age. Another had no interest in a vocation.

Two Lives in Photos: Sisters Theresa and Mary Ann Hathaway

Each month, the Sisters of Sr. Mary of Oregon honor the service of one of their Sisters.

This month, we honor two women who are sisters by birth and by vocation.

Remembering Sister Francisca Cuna
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Nov. 24 for Sister Francisca Cuna, who died unexpectedly at the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Motherhouse.

As one of 12 siblings and a member of our small Community, Sr. Francisca deeply touched the lives of all those who knew and loved her.

Her gentle and caring heart made her a wonderful and treasured caregiver.

In memory and honor of Sister Hugh
On the walls of St. Mary's Catholic School in Spokane, a wall plaque honors those who have demonstrated faith, knowledge and community.

That plaque now features the name of Sister Mary Hugh Copenhaver, SSMO.

Advent Retreat 2014

While we often think of Advent as the commemoration of the coming of Jesus, Advent is also a time to focus on the second coming of Jesus which will happen in one of two ways: at the end of all time or at the end of an individual's time on earth. Are you prepared? That question was at the heart of a thoughtful discussion at the Sisters' 2014 Advent Retreat.

Poverty: Who would want it? Find out on Dec. 14

Why would the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon make a vow of poverty?

What does it mean?

On Dec. 14, come and see.

Saint of the Month: Our Lady of Guadalupe

In 1531, a "Lady from Heaven" appeared to Saint Juan Diego, a poor Indian from Tepeyac, a hill northwest of Mexico City.

She identified herself as the mother of Jesus and instructed him to have the bishop build a church on the site.
