A MESSAGE FROM THE SSMO
SUPERIOR GENERAL

Dear Families and Friends,

Since our last newsletter, we have been saying "Welcome" over and over again.  First, we welcomed Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina as our new Pope.  We welcomed Archbishop Alexander Sample of Marquette, Michigan, as the eleventh archbishop of the Archdiocese of Portland.  We welcomed Archbishop John Vlazny to his new home on our campus. Early in March, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon welcomed Anna Nguyen as a candidate in our Community.

Meet the Sisters: Sister Delores Adelman

Growing up on a farm in Gervais, Delores Adelman couldn't have envisioned the path that ultimately brought her to the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon - a path that has blended service in education and care for the body and the spirit.

Welcoming Anna Nguyen

It has been a long journey for Anna Nguyen before she arrived on the steps of the Motherhouse of our Community.

Story of Faith: Standing on the Shoulders

A beautiful, moving video that captures a story of faith and a reminder that we are all standing on the shoulders of the ones who came before us.

Associate Covenant Day

Seven new Associates made their Covenant with the SSMOs in Beaverton on Sunday, March 23. Other new Associates gathered at Star of the Sea Parish in Astoria, Ore. on March 8 to give witness to their Covenant with the SSMO.

Bethany Center: How palliative care improves the lives of patients and their families

If your loved one was facing a serious illness, would you know how to provide care and support? Palliative care could be the answer. On April 20, the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Bethany Center series will present "Palliative care: beyond a simple definition."

SSMOs craft out of this world items for the 2013 Valley Catholic Benefit Gala

The Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon love arts and crafts, and they generously donate their talents each year in support of the campus fundraiser for Valley Catholic School. This year is no exception.

Saint of the Month Reflection: St. Catherine of Siena

The Renaissance was just beginning when Catherine Benincasa was born to a prosperous wool dyer in northern Italy. For a woman of a relatively young age - a woman living in those historic times - she had an exceptional influence on politics and world history. This month: the story of St. Catherine of Siena, co-patron of Italy.
