In the Spotlight

Have these snow days given you an EVEN GREATER appreciation for your child's teachers? If so, there's no better way to honor them than with a Golden Apple nomination! Nominations are due to the MLS office next Thursday, February 4Click here for more details.

Mark your calendar for everyone's favorite library event, the Scholastic Book Fair! Our famous Family Book Fair Night will take place on Wednesday, March 2; along with peace, love and books, we will have a pizza dinner starting at 5:30 pm and the much anticipated mystery reader at 6:30 pm. As always, volunteers make our fair a success. We need people to help children with their book selections and purchases. In particular, we need adult cashiers from 6 to 7:30 on Family Night. To check out all available opportunities, click here to visit our sign-up page.

Last week was a great week for Box Tops -- keep them coming! The current leader in our friendly classroom competition is Ms. Wetmore-Simpson's 5th grade class with 688 Box Tops! Ms. Benoit's 1st grade class holds the next spot with 565 Box Tops, and Ms. Ealy's 2nd grade class rounds out third place with 360 Box Tops. Thanks for collecting - we can't wait to count all of the Box Tops you've collected during the snow days! The contest will run until February 19. Click here for all the details.

Did you use your snowed-in days to clean out the closets? Donations for Bingo Night prizes are still needed! Prize collection boxes are located under the bulletin board near the pencils and in the front lobby. Click here for details.

From Andrea Atkinson: "A fellow librarian in Albemarle County is hoping to collect enough books to put one or two in the hands of each of her K-5th grade students. I am working with her to collect a variety of gently used books to give to the students who crave new books but simply cannot afford them. I will accept book or cash donations anytime before February 12th." Click here for more details.
