In discussions this winter, the MLS PTO board identified two main priorities in the ACPS budget this year: 1.) salary increases for teachers, important for fairly compensating, retaining, and recruiting talented faculty; and 2.) funding for growth, so that staffing and facilities will accommodate population growth in our schools.  

According to the Albemarle Education Association Board, a tax rate increase of two cents would provide schools a full one cent of funding to balance the budget gap, and it would fully fund the following:

• Keeping up with resources and staffing needed for schools experiencing student growth
• Maintaining current class sizes
• Providing full funding for a 2% raise for teachers
• Implementing the first phase of a full-time elementary school nurse program
• Providing half-time truancy prevention support staff
• Restoring professional development for teachers
