Annual Fund Campaign Kick Off!

Annual Fund Campaign Kicks Off!

The MLS PTO Annual Fund is underway!  As you heard at back-to-school night, our successful Sell No Stuff campaign of the last two years has evolved into the Annual Fund, a sustainable source of support for MLS to address the most pressing strategic initiatives and funding gaps.  Dr. Irani and his staff have identified funding priorities for this year: 1). a set of tablets for use in classrooms; 2.) a professional development fund to allow our teachers to learn and grow as educators; 3). a playground fund to begin improvements to the 3rd-5th grade playground.  Your gift can help us work toward all three initiatives!

Our goal is 100% participation in the Annual Fund by MLS families. A huge thank you to the 19 families who have already made their gift!  Your donation of any size directly benefits the school, and our participation as a whole demonstrates our commitment and unified support of our children's education. Your letter should have arrived in your home mailbox last week, with complete instructions on how to donate via US Mail or backpack mail, or click here to donate now online!  If you have questions about the Annual Fund, contact Bryce Harris, brycebharris@gmail.com, or Samantha Hartog, samhartog@gmail.com.  Thanks for your support!

Coffee and Conversation with Dr. Irani:
Wednesday, Oct. 15th

coffee mug

The MLS PTO is happy to introduce Coffee & Conversation with Dr. Irani!  These monthly "coffee dates" are a chance for parents to learn about and share thoughts on current trends and initiatives that will impact MLS.  Our first meeting will be Wednesday, October 15th from 8:15 - 9:00 am at the school; the topic will be "Assessment for the 21st Century," with a focus on the Lifelong Learning Competencies and the need for non-traditional assessments (e.g., projects, performance tasks, portfolios, etc.).  In addition, part of the time in this first meeting will be spent identifying topics of interest for future meetings.

So, join us on Wednesday, October 15th at 8:15 am, and mark your calendar for subsequent sessions on November 19th and December 17th!

Box Tops For Education

BOX TOPS

Don't forget to clip and save Box Tops for Education this school year!  You may want to have your child designate and decorate a small container or Ziploc bag specifically for collecting Box Tops.  You can click on this link for a list of participating products:

http://www.boxtops4education.com/participating-products.

Box Tops turned in any time will benefit Meriwether Lewis, or you can wait and turn them in for credit during our classroom contest in early 2015.   Get creative and ask grandparents or other family members, friends, and neighbors to collect with you!   Please contact Brooke Reid at jandbreid@aol.com with any Box Tops questions.
