Kids Night Out

Kids Night Out

Don't miss Kid's Night Out this Friday. Doors open at 6pm for fun outdoors (weather permitting) and indoors with favorite teachers who keep things moving! The big movie feature is "The Lego Movie!" Reserve a spot for your child by registering online at MLSPTO, or by printing this form. You can walk in and pay at the door if you decide to share your kids with us at the last minute, but we really appreciate pre-registration and payment to make things smoother at drop off.

Pick up is at 9:30pm sharp and remember...feed your children dinner at home, pack a snack, water and whatever they need to be comfy for the movie (pj's, pillow, sleeping bag, etc). We'll see you Friday night!

Coffee and Conversation with Dr. Irani:
Wednesday, Oct. 15th

coffee mug

The MLS PTO is happy to introduce Coffee & Conversation with Dr. Irani!  These monthly "coffee dates" are a chance for parents to learn about and share thoughts on current trends and initiatives that will impact MLS.  Our first meeting will be Wednesday, October 15th from 8:15 - 9:00 am at the school; the topic will be "Assessment for the 21st Century," with a focus on the Lifelong Learning Competencies and the need for non-traditional assessments (e.g., projects, performance tasks, portfolios, etc.).  In addition, part of the time in this first meeting will be spent identifying topics of interest for future meetings.

So, join us on Wednesday, October 15th at 8:15 am, and mark your calendar for subsequent sessions on November 19th and December 17th!

The Meriewether Lewis school garden is complete and being cultivated! Teachers wishing to participate have been assigned an 8' X 8' plot inside the 65' x 32' fenced garden. The garden features 15 sub plots, deer and rabbit fencing, a rain barrel, 3 compost bins, watering cans, hand rakes, and lots of sunshine. Classrooms are growing kale, spinach, lettuce, herbs, flowers, and other vegetables this fall season. The garden will be a great classroom outdoor experience for all of the kids of MLS. Box Tops For Education

BOX TOPS

Don't forget to clip and save Box Tops for Education this school year!  You may want to have your child designate and decorate a small container or Ziploc bag specifically for collecting Box Tops.  You can click on this link for a list of participating products:

Box Tops turned in any time will benefit Meriwether Lewis, or you can wait and turn them in for credit during our classroom contest in early 2015.   Get creative and ask grandparents or other family members, friends, and neighbors to collect with you!   Please contact Brooke Reid at jandbreid@aol.com with any Box Tops questions.

yearbook

Don't miss out on this MLS tradition! Birthday Book Club (BBC) is a voluntary program sponsored by the PTO.  It supports our library and helps ensure that we have plenty of new and exciting books for your children each year.  Flyers went home in backpack mail last week.

The online information and registration form is now live and can be found here:

http://mlspto.org/committees/birthdaybookclub.html.  Note that new this year is an optional donation to support our new and popular summer library hours!  Be sure to honor your child with a birthday book by October 3rd.  Our "party" will be held in the spring and all BBC children will celebrate with cupcakes and be the first to check their special book out of our library.  Questions?
