COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) [today] announced the discovery of a hemlock-killing pest in Lawrence, Monroe and Vinton counties in southeast Ohio. Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) is a small, aphid-like insect native to Asia that threatens the health and sustainability of eastern hemlock and Carolina hemlock in the eastern United States. Read more.

Appalachian Initiative Restoring Forests in Degraded Mined Lands
WASHINGTON, DC-The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) and the USDA Forest Service - State and Private Forestry (USFS) announced [today] $678,000 in grants to support forest restoration on old, degraded mined land areas at sites in Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. State foresters from those States, or their designated partners, will receive grants through the Appalachian Forest Renewal Initiative, a new partnership between NFWF and the USDA Forest Service. Grey Towers Celebrates Earth Day With Run/Walk
MILFORD, Pa.--The Grey Towers National Historic Site will host an 8K Run/Walk on April 26, to celebrate Earth Day and introduce participants to the unique heritage of Gifford Pinchot's ancestral home. Proceeds will help the Grey Towers Heritage Association provide public programs throughout the year.

Entomologist Steve Katovich Earns Partnership Award

ST. PAUL, Minn.--Dr. Steve Katovich was presented with the Partnership Award from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, at the NA S&PF St. Paul Field Office's State Forest Health Coordinators meeting. The award was presented on behalf of Forrest Boe, the Minnesota State Forester, to members of the Southeast Minnesota Emerald Ash Borer Response Team--an interdisciplinary and interagency team addressing emerald ash borer issues in southeast Minnesota. The group worked in the areas of survey protocols, utilization of infested trees, and coordination to ensure efficient and effective outcomes.
