South Shore Vocational Technical High School Celebrates $133K Life Sciences Grant and the Implementation of a

"True" Engineering Academy

South Shore Vocational Technical Regional School District, in partnership with Massachusetts Life Sciences Center and various technology corporate donors, is celebrating a job well done!

The school district was recently notified that it has been selected for a second round of grant funding in the amount of $133,000 from the Mass Life Sciences Foundation.  The grant and corporate donations will allow an updated curriculum to flow from the 9th and 10th grade, where students apply engineering principles to actual engineering projects, into the 11th and 12th grade, where real world manufacturing prototype processes allow students the opportunity to move their products into limited production runs.

Vincent Barba, an electrical engineer and dual certified electronics teacher and engineering teacher has an eye on the future stating, "I could see our school pioneering the way to help others by accepting corporate donations of excess and obsolete material, and building limited production runs of similar projects that others could use to teach life sciences and STEM awareness to students."

Check out a recent Boston Globe article spotlighting their exciting news and read more about the engineering academy here.   To learn more about donating corporate excess and obsolete material, contact Vincent Barba at vbarba@ssvotech.org.
