Leaders from education, industry and government will gather next week to discuss the future of STEM policies and programs throughout Massachusetts. Sessions will cover a broad range of topics, including: state policy; early childhood, K-12, and higher education; out-of-school time programs; digital education; research and practice; innovation and entrepreneurship; workforce development and career awareness; skilled educators; and more. The SeaPerch program brings hands-on, minds-on engineering design concepts and scientific principles into the middle and high school classroom. Curriculum resource materials that bring together basic engineering design skills and science practices are provided to support the Science and Technology/Engineering standards. Concepts incorporated into the curriculum resource materials include marine science, oceanography, biomimicry, ocean engineering, physics, robotics, mathematics and marine related careers. The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute is hosting this year's Ocean Literacy Summit, a gathering of professionals who work in science, ocean science education, advocacy, non-profit and government organizations from around New England. Keynote speaker and writer Deborah Cramer will address this year's theme: "The ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected." Cool Science Art Competition:

Giving Voice to Kids about Climate Change!

 

The Third Annual Cool Science Art Competition is underway! Students and teachers are encouraged to develop a visual work of art that addresses one of three questions about climate change.  Cool Science is a statewide K-12 student art competition designed to foster learning about climate change.  Winning entries will receive a monetary prize and have their work put on public display throughout the Lowell Regional Transit Authority during the first half of 2015.  Deadline for submissions is November 21st. Click here for contest details and registration.

Join the AMP it up!Challenge

The AMP it up! Challenge invites students to research the inner workings of an advanced manufacturing innovation and how it impacts the world around them. Students are challenged to bring it all to life in a 3-minute video and submit it on the AMP it up! website.  Winning videos will earn a cash prize or grant funding, donated to their school.  Register today!  To learn more about the challenge, click here.
