A message from our leaders
High School Update
I would like to thank everyone that took part in our high school survey. Almost four hundred responses were received, the most of any survey we have done to date. The survey showed overwhelming support for an Académie Lafayette high school with over 85% of respondents agreeing or strongly agreeing to support an AL high school.
One question asked many times was, "if the start date is pushed back by a year or more will the school still only open with 9th grade". The current plan is to open only with a 9th grade class, no matter when the high school opens. There were also many specific questions about extracurricular programs. The high school will offer a range of arts and sports programs. Until we have a clearer view of when/where the high school will start, we cannot give specific answers to the extracurricular program structure.
KCPS has announced that the Southwest Early College Campus (SWECC) will continue for the 2015-2016 school year. We are continuing active and productive discussions with KCPS.
The comments we received from the survey ranged from parents desperate to find a good high school for their student next year, to concern that we don't lose focus on our K-8 program. The overriding message was that this is important to our students and needs to be done right. Like all worthwhile endeavors, this will take time and patience.
We will continue to provide updates as we progress.
Thank you,
Chad Phillips Elimane Mbengue
AL Board President Head of School

Caught With Character
We want to celebrate Académie Lafayette students who show random acts of kindness and character!
Cole Williams - Without being asked he held the door open for students in the morning, Mme. Stephanie really appreciated your help!
Imogene Long - Returned $20 that was lost on the playground. When given the option to have the money if nobody collects it she replied " I want the money to go to the school because I really like this school!"
Jasia Tolbert - Baked cookies for her teacher!
Reece Pratt and Isabel Bernal - Have come to help in the library after school. They are now experts on putting books away properly. They also offer to help during library class after finishing an activity.

Coins for the Cabinet Recap
Students at both campuses participated in "Coins for the Cabinet" in November to help raise money for Kansas City's Medicine Cabinet. This program assists Kansas Citians with much-needed emergency medical assistance including diabetic supplies, dental emergencies, vision care, hearing assessments and medical prescriptions.
Our students raised $834.88 in ONE WEEK! This amount can provide six vision assessments along with a new pair of glasses! This program really changes lives!
The Baptist-Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation wants to thank the students of Académie Lafayette for their amazing contributions to the citizens of Kansas City.

Painless fundraising
Amazon Fundraiser: It's Painless!!
We have a new, truly painless fundraising opportunity for Acamedie Lafayette. Do you ever shop on Amazon? Do you plan to order from Amazon for holiday gifts? If so, our school can earn money for every purchase made on Amazon by using a link associated with our school. I'm excited to announce the Amazon fundraiser for Academie Lafayette by SimpleFundraiser.net. There are no products to sell, volunteers to organize, or money to collect. This fundraiser is an internet based program specifically with Amazon.com. Academie Lafayette will make 5-6% commission on purchases made using the link created for AL. There is no additional cost to shopping on Amazon through our special link and using this link when shopping Amazon is all that is required to earn the 5-6% for Academie Lafayette. Sounds so easy, doesn't it? With Cyber Monday quickly approaching, this is a great opportunity for AL to earn some much needed fundraising dollars.
For this to be a successful program we need to share this link with as many people as we can so that as many people as possible remember to use it when shopping on Amazon. In order for AL to get the commission, users must use the link associated with our school. Please forward this information to friends and family, share the link on your social media sites, and encourage people to bookmark and use the link when shopping on Amazon.
This is our Amazon fundraiser link: http://amzn.to/ZoZtLq
All funds raised are going toward the general fund. Please contact Alise if you have any question at alise713@hotmail.com
Happy shopping!
