A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHERRY STREET PRINCIPAL

France - Here I Come!

As many of you know, I will be traveling to France this weekend with our 6th graders. I am so excited to get to know some of our older students (and of course, to visit a part of France I've never seen).

I will miss my Cherry students, but the teachers and staff are prepared and ready for my absence, as we have arranged for extra support while I am gone.

Before I leave, I have one great story to share. I was in a first grade classroom yesterday, and a student shared a story with me that he had written.  Some of the spelling was creative, but the message was loud and clear: people at Acadmie Lafayette are kind, and our school is a good place.  I couldn't agree more!

Bon weekend!

French Exchange Student/6th Grade Trip

Our French guests left this morning to return home. There were tears (as is customary), but many friendships made. The French students had wonderful experiences with their host families and during the time spent at AL.

Our 6th grade students depart tomorrow for their overseas adventure. Students will travel to Cambo, Pau and Bayonne to stay with host families, attend classes, and sight-see in Paris. They return to Kansas City on May 8th, and will surely have many stories to tell about their experiences.

Merci to Our Host Families

Thank you to the 26 (plus three chaperone hosts) families who generously opened their hearts and homes to the French visitors in the past few weeks. We hope you enjoyed your experience and made friendships that will last a lifetime.

Smart Boards

We are excited about Smart Boards currently being installed at the Oak campus! The first Smart Board was installed this week in the computer lab. Smart Boards use an interactive whiteboard technology similar to using a touch screen on a tablet. Thanks to a grant, 3rd through 5th grade classrooms will be using them soon.

Let's enjoy the last five weeks of school! Merci!

Time to Enroll: Le Monde des STEAM

Sign-up for the weeks you want to attend now!

It's going to be a great summer at Acadmie Lafayette! Enrollment is happening now, and must be completed by April 30, 2014.

This year's summer camp will take students, incoming Kindergarteners up to next year's 8th graders, on an exploration of the world of STEAM. Each week, students will study different aspects of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering Arts and Math). Along with the academic experiences, students will enjoy regular enrichment classes, special guest appearances and fun field trips.

In an effort to maintain a balanced budget for the summer program, we ask that parents sign-up their children for only the weeks that the students can attend all the days. This will allow us to provide a better program based on firm attendance numbers rather than trying to predict the attendance as we have done in the past.

We are going paperless this summer, so use CLICK HERE to sign up online.

Painless Fundraising

It's that time again...if you have been saving Box Tops, Best Choice, Clearly Organic and Labels for Education labels (and we are hoping you have) it is time to send them to your teacher or put them in the bins provided at each campus. The bin at Oak is next to the front desk and at Cherry you will find the bin next to the auditorium. Be sure to include your teacher's name on your baggie so your child's class will get credit. The class with the most labels will get an end of year reward!

For more information on all the painless ways to donate to our school go to the school website: http://www.academielafayette.org/painless-fundraising/  If you have any questions please contact Alise at [email protected].
