High School Meetings: Well-Attended, Merci!
What a busy week we've had at Acadmie Lafayette! We had many parents turnout for the second high school informational meeting at Cherry Street on Tuesday. The parents of the Kindergarten through 4th
grade students were engaged, gave helpful feedback and asked great questions. We will post the information gathered from both sessions on the website soon.

SchoolWorks School Quality Visit
Through a partnership with the Kauffman Foundation, we have had visitors all week from SchoolWorks. SchoolWorks (an education consulting organization with a mission to build the capacity of educators to advance all aspects of student achievement and well-being) and The High Bar (an organization that works to maximize the effectiveness of charter school Boards) are helping us to complete a school review process.

In this process, SchoolWorks will conduct an assessment of overall school quality and provide follow-up support. We have had several different focus groups (board, teacher and staff, student and parent) this week.

After-School Program Update
Lastly, with input from our admin team, we have decided to postpone the implementation of an "in house" afterschool program for the school year 2014-15. We will continue to research and lay the groundwork needed to have this program up and running by the following school year. For the summer and school year 2014-15, the YMCA will continue to be our after-school provider.

Evening in Paris Don't forget that the grand gala, Evening in Paris, is coming up on March 29th. It promises to be a wonderful night for all who are involved. Thank you to the hard-working committee members!

Thanks for you continued support. Have a wonderful and safe Spring Break!

A Note From our Cherry Street Principal

Contact: Heather Royce, [email protected]

As we get ready for Spring Break, I wanted to share a few favorite moments from the past two weeks to illustrate we have the best students at A.L.

1.  We have fast students.  A first grader got new tennis shoes for his birthday and challenged me to a race.  (He won.)
2.  We have creative students (and parents).  I have enjoyed seeing the beautiful Evening in Paris projects as they come in to the office.  I can't wait to bid!
3.  We have honest students.  A first grader found a dollar on the playground and brought it to the office to turn it in.
4.  We have brilliant students.  I asked a kindergarten student how old he thought I am.  He said 22.  :)

These kids make me smile every day.
Have a relaxing Spring Break!

Parents with children in 7th grade will be receiving a letter reminding them that their children must have the TDAP immunization before the start of 8th grade SUMMER SCHOOL OR the REGULAR SCHOOL YEAR, 2014-15.

Parents will need to provide the updated immunization records to the school nurse as soon as possible.

Students may have already received the immunization, please contact your child's doctor. If this is the case, please have your doctor's office fax the records (Attn. Nurse) to the Oak Street nurse at: 816-361-5788.

Parents who RSVP by March 19th will receive a $5 discount (or $7 per family with 2 or more siblings attending.)

Contact: Shelly Doucet, [email protected]

Mark your calendars! Generations Day will be Thursday, May 22nd at Cherry and Friday, May 23rd at Oak.
Generations Day, a celebration of older relatives and friends of students, is in the planning stages and we need YOU to help us collect addresses for any and all guests that might want to attend. Even if you know they can't attend this year, please provide their address so that they can be added to next year's list.

Send name, mailing address, phone number, and email address to [email protected]. Or call 816-886-8760.

Interested in helping with the planning of these important events? Let Shelly Doucet or Liz Zeller know!

Oak Street Traffic Reminder: CLOCKWISE

Since the beginning of the year, we instituted a clockwise traffic pattern around the Oak campus. Even though we no longer have signs up or staff members directing traffic, please continue to follow this pattern. We have received positive feedback from our neighbors and parents, and want to make this a permanent traffic pattern.

Drivers should enter the campus from Oak on 69th Street and continue around the campus, entering the parking lot, then exit the parking lot to leave the campus from 69th Terrace to Oak Street.

Thank you for your cooperation! Please also help us to be good neighbors to the surrounding neighborhoods by parking carefully, obeying the posted speed limits and posted parking signs.

If any parent would like to volunteer to help us direct traffic on occasion, please contact Katie Hendrickson at [email protected]

AL Basketball Games: Fun For ALL!

This annual event was held at in the gym at Cherry and was attended by many. Go to this link to see more pictures:
