A MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL
Dear AL Community,
Welcome back to school after our Spring Break! Although I enjoyed the break, it's nice to come back to school and get back into our busy routine. Character Assemblies This week we recognized students who embody this month's featured characteristic of citizenship. Congratulations to those students! April will conclude our character program until the next school year. New Food Service We have had stellar food service this week from our new provider, The Guadalupe Center. It seems like the students are enjoying the new menu, even though the meals include more vegetables! Evening in Paris A "grand merci" to all those involved in this weekend's An Evening in Paris. The fact that this is the 10th year for this amazing event is a testament to the commitment of our community to Acadmie Lafayette. Important Info on 3rd Language Choice During the next school year, AL will offer 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students a third language. Students will have the choice between Spanish and Mandarin. To help plan for recruitment of teachers, a language choice form will be sent home next week. Please understand that once a choice is made, and the classes have begun, no changes will be allowed. Watch for the form to come home with your students next week. Merci beaucoup de votre support! Elimane Mbengue, Head of School

A MEssage from our cherry Street Principal
Spring is (Almost) Here!
Happy Spring! It is great to see the flowers on bulletin boards and the eggs and incubators in 2nd grade classrooms. I can't wait to see plants coming up in our gardens. One reminder to families about the playground. Please be sure to supervise children on the playground after school or on the weekend. We have had several instances of trash being left, messes being made (mud thrown against the windows for example), and play equipment being used in unsafe ways. We want to keep our outdoor space available to our school community, so please help us keep it nice. Merci! Madame Royce

Counselor's Corner: Oak
March: Citizenship Assembly
Congratuations to Students of the Month! This month's character trait is citizenship. I had many insightful and exciting conversations with your students during our counselor lessons! We celebrated ways that we are all diverse and unique, we focused on how to make a difference in our school and continued our on-going discussions about anti-bullying and peace-building. We wrapped up our citizenship month with an all school assembly highlighting student talents and strengths. You truly have amazing children that I am honored to work with each day!

news
Curious about our new food provider?
Starting this past Monday, a new food vendor is onsite at both campuses providing a fresh menu of exciting items for our students to eat. The catering service at Guadalupe Centers, Inc. now provides both breakfast and lunch at Cherry and Oak.
Already, staff members have observed that the Guadalupe Center catering staff arrive on time and work hard to ensure that students receive adequate portions of healthy food on their plates. Plus, there are two vegetables for lunch instead of one, more whole grains, and more fresh fruits and vegetables.
Even the early release day "sack" lunch contained a turkey wrap, fresh cauliflower, and delicious purple grapes. The hot lunch menu is also more appetizing, including fajitas, salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, grilled chicken, fish, and oven roasted turkey breast. The students eat more of their food and enjoy it!
Check out the monthly breakfast and lunch menus online at the AL website, or download the March or April menus to see more whole grain (WG) items, reduced sugar selections, and fresh vegetables!

Track practice for the kindergarten - 3rd graders will not start until April 22, 2014 at the Oak Street campus.
Remember to turn in your Parent Sport Release Form to Coach Djiba at: edjiba@academielafayette.org, or at the front desk at the Oak campus to Coach Djiba's attention or bring them to practice.

Girl Scout News
It's Cookie Time!
The 4th grade Girl Scouts will be selling Girl Scout cookies every day after school next week. They cost $4 per box. Aside from paying the baker, all the money stays local. Some proceeds will go to support the troop so that the girls can go do fun things like camping and learning archery. The rest is used to keep our local council running and keep our camps open. Thanks for your support!
