Dear AUCC Members and Friends: Happy Holidays and best wishes for a prosperous New Year! We would like to express our gratitude to all AUCC members who, through all these years, have proven to be Uzbekistan's true allies and have been nothing but dedicated, reliable, honest and most conscientious business partners inspired to expand the bilateral relationship, business climate and promote development to enhance the lives of the people of Uzbekistan and the US. Our companies recognize that despite the global economic slowdown, Uzbekistan has managed to secure successfully greater macroeconomic stability and growth. We applaud the Government of Uzbekistan for their continuous process to improve the operating business environment that US companies benefit from and fiscal discipline that has enhanced economic growth. We greatly appreciate our own US Government for their continuous dialogue with their Uzbek counterparts on how to use trade and investment engagement as a pillar of the bilateral relations. We stand ready to use our business acumen to facilitate the Uzbek and US Governments' efforts to attract more American companies and helping those who are already here generate even more success stories for the world to hear. We hope for the US and Uzbek Governments' support in helping us multiply our achievements and generate more projects and contracts that will make our nations achieve greater prosperity, stability and higher rates of development. Happy Holidays! May 2015 bring greater prosperity to the American and Uzbek people. Sincerely, Carolyn Lamm, AUCC Chairperson Timothy McGraw, AUCC President If your company is interested in joining AUCC, please contact our office at 202-509-3744 or info@aucconline.com. Uzbekistan's cabinet of ministers adopted the 'Decree on measures for further development of the MAN heavy-load vehicles production', under which the Uzbek-German joint venture, MAN Auto-Uzbekistan, will in 2016 launch an enterprise in the Samarkand region to produce cabins for heavy-load trucks.
The decree stipulates that the MAN Truck&Bus AG, a division of MAN group companies, and Uzavtoprom will realize a project to launch the production of cabins for the MAN heavy-load vehicles at the MAN Auto-Uzbekistan JV. JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan is the customer.
Given that MAN Truck&Bus AG is the owner of the production technology and 'know-how' for the production of MAN heavy vehicles' cabins, the government allowed to carry out the project's development without an initial feasibility study.
The equipment and accessories, necessary for the project's realization and imported to the country, are exempt from all customs duties under the government decision.
At the same time, it was allowed to purchase the equipment and accessories for the production of cabins without tenders, "by signing contracts with manufacturers, recommended by MAN Truck&Bus AG".
An extract of the document was published, and it doesn't indicate the design capacity of the production and its cost.
Uzbekistan's 2015 investment program includes a project for launching a process of assembly of the vehicle cabs at the JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan. Its cost is $16 million, while the design capacity is 3,000 units per year.

The capacity of sulfuric acid production in Uzbekistan will increase by 1.4 times, from 950 metric tons to 1,300 metric tons per year by 2020, according to the decree of Uzbekistan's Cabinet of Ministers.
The government decree envisages increasing the capacity by constructing new sulfuric acid producing facilities (with capacity of 650,000 metric tons per year each) at Ammofos-Maxam JSC and Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine.
It is planned to commission the facilities at Ammofos-Maxam and Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
Meanwhile, the outdated facilities for sulfuric acid production will be decommissioned at Ammofos-Maxam (with capacity of 500,000 metric tons per year) and Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine (450,000 metric tons per year).
It is planned to finance the projects with the own funds of the Uzhimprom State Joint Stock Company, Uzbek Fund for Reconstruction and Development, loans from local and foreign banks, own funds of Ammofos-Maxam and Navoi Combine.
However, the cost of the projects is not specified in the government decree.
The general contractors for construction of the facilities on a "turnkey" basis will be determined through closed tenders.
Ammofos-Maxam JSC, commissioned in 1969, is the largest of the three chemical enterprises producing phosphate fertilizers in Uzbekistan. The design capacity allows to produce over 338,000 metric tons of ammophos, 500,000 metric tons of sulfuric acid and 417,000 metric tons of wet-process phosphoric acid per year.
Spanish MAXAM Corp. obtained 49 percent of the enterprise's share for $18 million and investment commitments worth $30 million in January 2008. The state is the owner of 51 percent of the block of shares.
Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Combine is one of the largest gold producers in Central Asia. The combine is fully owned by the state. The annual production volume nears $2 billion.

Uzbekistan's Fund for support of exports of small and private businesses and the "Italy-Uzbekistan" joint chamber of commerce have signed a Memorandum of Understanding and agreed to cooperate in establishing close business ties between entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan and Italy, the Jahon information agency reported.
The document was signed late last week during a meeting of the Fund's representatives with Luigi Iperti, the president of the "Italy-Uzbekistan" joint chamber of commerce.
Their negotiations discussed further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as establishing and strengthening mutual business ties. At the meeting the Fund presented Uzbekistan's export potential and conditions created to support exports.
The Italian guest expressed big interest in participation of Uzbek businessmen in trade fairs of textile, wine-making, and agricultural industries in Italy and offered his assistance in organizational issues. He also welcomed the idea to export Uzbek capers, wine, and honey to Italy.
The Uzbek export support fund also invited Italian importing companies, supermarket chains, and other interested organizations to take part in an international conference of the food and textile industries which will be held on April 29 and 30 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
It is notable that in January 2013 the Mayor's office of Samarkand city and the Administration of Italy's Florence province signed an Agreement on Friendship and Cooperation.

AUCC would like to invite all interested parties to participate in the 2015 US-Uzbekistan Annual Business Forum and hear the Uzbek Government plans and opportunities for our members' increased trade and investment engagement in the market that can help US become a leading business partner. AUCC members will also share their success stories to encourage more US companies to do business and invest in Uzbekistan.
AGENDA:
The American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC) is the only trade association in the United States and Uzbekistan that exclusively represents the business interests of U.S. companies active in the Uzbek market. Established in 1993 and based in Washington, D.C., AUCC is the first bilateral trade organization that successfully promotes trade and investment ties, cultural exchanges and bonds of friendship between the United States and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In performing its functions, AUCC places primary emphasis on serving the needs and interests of its members, namely:
The Boeing Company, Case New Holland Industrial, The Coca-Cola Company, FMN International, General Electric, General Motors, Harris Corporation, Honeywell, Indsur Stelcor, Inc., Lockheed Martin, Nukem Inc., Rio Tinto, Solar Turbines, Sustainment Solutions, Inc., White & Case LLP and Zeppelin International AG. These companies are united by one common cause: promotion of trade and investment ties, cultural exchanges and bonds of friendship between the United States of America and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Today, Uzbekistan represents the largest market in the Central Asia region with a population of almost 30 million people, an annual GDP growth of 8% and a well-established and diversified economy. American companies invested more than $500 million in the Uzbek economy during the period 1992 to 2012. In addition, U.S. exports to the Republic of Uzbekistan amounted to more than $3.3 billion. The year 2012 is a good example when US exports to Uzbekistan totaled more than $285 million compared to $100 million in 2011 and $101 million in 2010. In 2013, the trade levels continued to increase reaching a record $386 million. During the first nine months of 2014, the US-Uzbekistan trade turnover amounted to $281 million. While this is good news, the volume of U.S. exports and investments in this largest Central Asian market is lower than those of Uzbekistan's near neighbors, including Russia with its' 2013 exports to Uzbekistan reaching more than $7.1 billion; Сhina - $5.2 billion and Korea - $2.1 billion.
