2014 Opens a New Era for the Chamber

Since 1993 the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce has been at the forefront of advancing trade and business relations between the US and the Republic of Uzbekistan. AUCC prides itself in catering to the needs of our members, providing them with a platform to interact with policy makers in the US and the Republic of Uzbekistan and ensuring that bilateral commercial relations continue to be on the governments' top agenda.

For the last twenty years AUCC has been a vigorous advocate of the views of the business community to ensure that private sector positions are considered during the development of policies that impact American businesses and the future of U.S.-Uzbekistan relations.  While 2013 concluded our celebrations for the 20th anniversary it also opened a new era for the chamber and our members.

We are delighted that today AUCC continues to be a well-known organization that is recognized for its strength and ability to work closely with a great number of partner organizations. AUCC enjoys excellent working relations with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Washington, D.C., the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbek ministries, associations and organizations as well as the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. AUCC also coordinates its efforts with a great number of international financial institutions, business councils and other professional organizations.

We thank you all for your support and engagement and look forward to another year of progress and business successes.

Press Service of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan

December 2, 2014

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on December 2 at the Oqsaroy received Nisha Desai Biswal, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, who arrived in Tashkent to attend the fifth round of bilateral political consultations.

Greeting the guest, the head of our state said he positively appraises the dynamic nature of cooperation between our two nations that is built on pragmatism and mutual respect.

It was stressed at the meeting that the regular dialogue at various levels allows the two sides to better understand each other, find constructive solutions and define target spheres for furthering the interaction both in the interstate format and that among research and education institutions, culture and art figures, civil society representatives.

A particular significance during the conversation was attached to international affairs, primarily the Afghan quandary, which exerts a substantial influence on the state of security in our region and beyond it. In this regard, the Assistant Secretary of State noted that the United States highly appreciates the Uzbek leader's efforts in addressing the crisis in Afghanistan and our country's help in restoring its economy.

Nisha Desai Biswal thanked Islam Karimov for a warm welcome and the opportunity to exchange views on pressing bilateral and regional issues. On behalf of the leadership of her country, the American diplomat confirmed the U.S. commitment for the steadfast advancement of the multifaceted and long-term cooperation with Uzbekistan.

It stands to be noted here that key constituents of the Uzbek-American relations are trade-economic and investment spheres, and joint efforts on promising projects in high-tech sectors of the economy are in progress together with major U.S. companies.

Important in the enhancement of mutually advantageous contacts among business circles of the two countries has been the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, who met this past November in Tashkent for its regular session with the participation of leading businesses from Uzbekistan and the United States.

China hopes to boost law-enforcement and security cooperation with Uzbekistan in the fight against terrorism and narcotics so as to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, a visiting Chinese security official has said.

During a meeting with Uzbek president Islam Karimov on Monday, Chinese state councilor Guo Shengkun said China-Uzbekistan relations have developed rapidly in recent years and the two countries have broad prospects for comprehensive cooperation.

China is willing to work with Uzbekistan to implement important consensuses reached by their leaders, he added.

He spoke highly of Uzbekistan's active role as the host country for the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Guo expressed hope that China would further broaden and deepen cooperation with Uzbekistan in various fields within the framework of both bilateral mechanisms and the SCO, saying the two countries should jointly combat terrorist forces like the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM).

For his part, Karimov said the relationship between Uzbekistan and China is at its best, adding that his country is willing to comprehensively deepen cooperation with China in such fields as politics, economy, security, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.

Uzbekistan will join hands with China to crack down on ETIM and lift bilateral relations to a higher level, he said.
