2014 Opens a New Era for the Chamber
  

Since 1993 the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce has been at the forefront of advancing trade and business relations between the US and the Republic of Uzbekistan. AUCC prides itself in catering to the needs of our members, providing them with a platform to interact with policy makers in the US and the Republic of Uzbekistan and ensuring that bilateral commercial relations continue to be on the governments' top agenda.   

 

For the last twenty years AUCC has been a vigorous advocate of the views of the business community to ensure that private sector positions are considered during the development of policies that impact American businesses and the future of U.S.-Uzbekistan relations.  While 2013 concluded our celebrations for the 20th anniversary it also opened a new era for the chamber and our members.

 

We are delighted that today AUCC continues to be a well-known organization that is recognized for its strength and ability to work closely with a great number of partner organizations. AUCC enjoys excellent working relations with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Washington, D.C., the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbek ministries, associations and organizations as well as the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. AUCC also coordinates its efforts with a great number of international financial institutions, business councils and other professional organizations.

Uzbekistan intends to build two combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) at Syrdarya thermal power plant, the largest thermal power plant in Central Asia, with total capacity of 900 megawatts, a source at the "Uzbekenergo" State Joint-Stock Company told Trend.

At present, "Uzbekenergo" specialist are working on the preparation of preliminary feasibility study of the project on the modernization of the Syrdarya TPP envisaging construction of two CCGT with capacity of 450 megawatts of each, the source said.

It is assumed that the new CCGTs will be built to replace retiring from service NN 3, 4 and 5 units. Their total capacity is the same 900 MW now.

It is expected that work on the preparation of preliminary feasibility study will be completed in the second half of the year.

The final cost of the project will be known after the completion of the pre-feasibility study , but, according to preliminary calculations, it will be about $1billion.

In October 2012, "Uzbekenergo" completed construction of the combined cycle gas turbine at Navoi TPP with the capacity of 478 megawatts and with the power generation of 3.4 billion kilowatt hours per year. The project cost was about $ 530 million.

"Uzbekenergo" intends to begin construction on the second CCGT at the Navoi TPP with the capacity of 450 megawatts in early 2015. The project cost is $547.2 million.  Installed capacity of the Syrdarya TPP is 3,000 megawatts (10 units of 300 megawatts each). The annual volume of electricity production in the united energy system of the republic is 13 billion kWh, which is one third of the total electricity generated in Uzbekistan.

At present, the installed capacity of the Uzbek power plant is about 12,800 megawatts. The main share of electricity - up to 90 percent is produced by 10 thermal power plants of "Uzbekenergo" with total installed capacity of 10, 600 megawatts.

Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade and the head of the EU delegation in Tashkent Yuri St�rk discussed further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU, the ministry said.

The sides discussed issues of further expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation in trade-economic, investment, and financial-technical cooperation.

The relations between Uzbekistan and the EU are being developed as part of the agreement on partnership and cooperation, signed in June 1996.

At present, Uzbekistan conducts a dialogue with the European Union as part of five joint bodies - Cooperation Council, Cooperation Committee, the Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, Subcommittee on Trade and Investment, Subcommittee on Justice, Home Affairs, Human Rights and related issues.

Some 850 enterprises with European capital operate in the country. The representative offices of nearly 300 companies from the EU countries have been accredited at the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade.

Uzavtosanoat Joint Stock Company (JSC) and the Italian Landi Renzo S.p.A. established a new joint venture (JV) for the production of gas fuel systems for cars.

The new enterprise, which is called Avtosanoat - Landi Renzo, will work in the territory of the Navoi Special Economic Zone (FIEZ), Trend Agency reported.

The enterprise's projected capacity will amount to 25,000 sets of equipment per year.

Engine compartment equipment to transfer automobiles to consumption of natural gas systems will be assembled from components supplied from Italy during the first stage of the project. Later, the localization of the production will be considered.

The cost of the project in the first phase will be $1.8 million.

Uzbekistan has adopted a program on the phased transfer of automobile transport to natural gas. Currently, over 300,000 or about 10 percent of vehicles work with natural gas. Transferring about 30 percent of the total number of vehicles to natural gas is planned by 2016.

Landi Renzo is one of the world leaders in the production of components and systems for using liquefied petroleum gas and methane as an alternative fuel for vehicles.

The Navoi Special Economic Zone with a territory of more than 500 hectares was established in 2008.

South Korea's Daewoo International Corporation will invest up to $ 22 million to expand production at two textile factories in Uzbekistan.

"Uzbekyengilsanoat" and Daewoo International Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding on the expansion and modernization of existing production at Daewoo Textile Fergana and Daewoo Textile Bukhara.

The memorandum is aimed at further deepening and expansion of investment and cooperation, as well as modernization and expansion of production capacity of the two enterprises.

According to the memorandum, Daewoo Textile Fergana and Daewoo Textile Bukhara invest $ 12 million of equity in 2014-2015 to increase the spinning capacity of 4 tons. Company, and in 2016-2017 will send another $ 10 million to modernize and expand capacity.

This year has already invested more than $ 3 million in yarn production in Fergana and Bukhara to purchase new spinning equipment to increase the volume and improve the quality of our products.

In 2013, the amount of sales of Daewoo Textile Fergana was $ 107 million, and Daewoo Textile Bukhara was $ 44 million.

According to the investment program, it is planned to increase the amount of sales of the two companies in 2016 - to $ 170 million, and by 2020 - to $ 300 million.
