2014 Opens a New Era for the Chamber

Since 1993 the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce has been at the forefront of advancing trade and business relations between the US and the Republic of Uzbekistan. AUCC prides itself in catering to the needs of our members, providing them with a platform to interact with policy makers in the US and the Republic of Uzbekistan and ensuring that bilateral commercial relations continue to be on the governments' top agenda.

For the last twenty years AUCC has been a vigorous advocate of the views of the business community to ensure that private sector positions are considered during the development of policies that impact American businesses and the future of U.S.-Uzbekistan relations.  While 2013 concluded our celebrations for the 20th anniversary it also opened a new era for the chamber and our members.

We are delighted that today AUCC is a well-known organization that is recognized for its strength and ability to work closely with a great number of partner organizations. AUCC enjoys excellent working relations with the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Washington, D.C., the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbek ministries, associations and organizations as well as the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. AUCC also coordinates its efforts with a great number of international financial institutions, business councils and other professional organizations.

We thank you all for your support and engagement and look forward to another year of progress and business successes.

Our Mission: To advocate the views of the business community to ensure that private sector positions are considered during the development of key policies that impact American businesses and the future of U.S.-Uzbekistan relations.

Our Objective: To serve the needs of its members by strengthening commercial relations between the United States and Uzbekistan.
AUCC MEMBERS INCREASE BILATERAL TRADE AND INVESTMENTS WITH UZBEKISTAN

In 2013 the AUCC members, in keeping with a long-standing tradition of sharing their business plans with the people of the US and Uzbekistan, proposed several mid to long-term joint projects and contracts in the machinery-building, automotive, mining and other industries that were estimated at a total value of $4 bn.  As of today, several AUCC members have reported progress with their proposed plans. Speaking on behalf of the chamber, Ms. Carolyn Lamm, AUCC Chairperson, noted that: "We are delighted to see our members moving forward with their plans. All companies of AUCC are willing and eager to do more. We hope to see similar positive developments in regard to other projects offered by our members.  We strongly rely on our Uzbek partners and colleagues' help implement them."

General Motors (GM), a leading US investor in Uzbekistan since 2007, is moving forward with a new manufacturing plant in the Khorezem region. The project is estimated at $67 million and will be the company's fourth manufacturing plant with their local partner, "Uzavtosanoat" JSC. The company currently builds a range of vehicles in the Asaka Plant in the Andijan region, an SKD assembly plant in Tashkent and a new state-of-the-art engine plant, GM Powertrain Uzbekistan, in the Tashkent region. Case New Holland is in discussions with their Uzbek partners on how to further integrate Uzbekistan's production platform into its' industrial network of modern technology, management techniques, quality standards and customer care processes.  They are undertaking continuing investments, resulting in introduction of new products into industrial production in Uzbekistan such as Tractor Loader Backhoes and both large and small tractors. The company has been operating four joint ventures UzCaseMash, UzCaseTractor, UzCaseService and UzCaseAgroLeasing since 1997 and is well recognized as a flagship US investor. Another AUCC member, Rio Tinto, welcomed Uzbekistan's support for implementation of its' first year exploration program for copper and associated metals at the Gava licensed area in the Namangan region. Currently, the results of this work are being reviewed and a follow-up programme of exploration work is presently being planned and discussed with the relevant authorities.

AUCC President, Mr. Tim McGraw, concluded that: "There is nothing more convincing to a cohort of new US investors and companies than seeing successes by our members. We hope to see more American companies in the Uzbek market as a result of such significant progress. We highly commend the US and Uzbek governments for turning our trade relations into a pillar of the bilateral agenda." Established in 1993, the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC) is a trade association of US companies operating in Uzbekistan and calling for expansion of trade and investment relations with this important Central Asian market.
