Visit to the West Coast: Uzbek Ambassador to the US, Bakhtiyar Gulyamov, Aims to Boost US-Uzbekistan Bilateral Trade Agenda

The Uzbek Ambassador to the US, Bakhtiyar Gulyamov, is planning to take a five-day trip to the states of Washington, California and Nevada to meet with local businesses and promote bilateral cooperation in sectors such as: agro, energy, mining, healthcare and food processing.  The visit will take place March 3-7 and is organized by the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and the US Department of Commerce that have successfully collaborated on similar visits and round-table meetings in Hartford, CT and Philadelphia, PA.

The last several years have witnessed positive transformations in the US-Uzbekistan trade agenda with the US exports to Uzbekistan totaling more than $299 million during the first nine months of 2013.  In 2012 the US exports to Uzbekistan amounted to  $285 million, which was significantly higher than the $100 million in 2011, and $101 million in 2010.  Ambassador Gulyamov views the upcoming trip as an opportunity to boost the bilateral commercial relations and specifically, invite companies in the West Coast to participate in the IX International Specialized Exhibition-Fair of mini-technologies and compact equipment for the agriculture Uzbekistan Agrominitech Expo 2014 to be held on May 27-30, 2014 in Tashkent.  Famous for its high-quality agricultural produce, Uzbekistan is offering US food processing and packaging companies to bring their equipment duty-free, have it on display at no cost during the expo and receive the Uzbek Government support for sale of the exhibited equipment and technologies.  Ambassador Gulyamov is enthusiastic about outlining the details of the expo during the trip and offering the Uzbek Embassy's support to facilitate US companies' attendance to the expo.

Carolyn Lamm, AUCC Chairperson, welcomed Ambassador Gulyamov's outreach to the chamber to help organize the visit and noted that: "We are privileged to assist the Uzbek Embassy with this visit and hope that it results in new projects and commercial offers. We are delighted that Uzbekistan is offering incentives to new US companies to enter the agricultural sector and display their equipment at the May expo. Such   encouragement makes Uzbekistan a highly competitive and attractive trade and investment destination."  The AUCC Chairperson also highlighted on-going negotiations to implement a pipeline of chamber-related projects that are estimated at about $4 billion: "...if implemented, these highly technological projects will significantly increase the levels of our commercial engagement and will attract new US technologies that have become a focal point of the Uzbek economic development program. We value highly Ambassador visits outside of DC to help him become familiar with a huge commercial potential that AUCC companies can offer to its Uzbek counterparts."  Tim McGraw, AUCC President, added that: "Any success by AUCC member-company has a multiplying effect that lead to more US businesses operating in the Uzbek market.  Our members, with their well-recognized brands and excellent business practices, are committed to doing business in Uzbekistan and supporting Uzbekistan's quest for highly efficient and competitive American technologies and equipment."

Ambassador Gulyamov is scheduled to meet with US companies on:

March 3 - Seattle, WA

March 5 - San Francisco, CA

March 6 - Los Angeles, CA and

March 7 - Las Vegas, NV
