Valparaiso Forges New Partnerships with Israelis, Palestinians |
Located in the metropolitan Chicago area,Valparaiso University is surrounded by a diverse population, but President Mark Heckler envisions the campus as a "microcosm of the world." Although 56 countries are represented in Valpo's student population, Heckler traveled with his wife, Veronica, and Peter Kanelos, dean of Valpo's honors college - Christ College - to Israel to create opportunities for both faculty and students. He also hopes to encourage potential students from Israel and Palestine to enroll at Valpo. Read more.

President Linda Hanson to Retire from Hamline in 2015 |
Hamline University President Linda Hanson will retire, effective June 30, 2015, at which time she will have completed 10 years of dedicated service to Hamline University. Under President Hanson's leadership, the university has moved forward in several strategic areas. In the past nine years, Hamline launched its School of Business and competitive MBA program; developed and opened a second campus
serving students in the West Metro Twin Cities; created and successfully marketed several new academic programs; achieved recognition as the top-ranked private law school in Minnesota; and maintained recognition as the top-ranked regional, comprehensive university in Minnesota. Read more.

Susan Beatty, Ph.D. has accepted the position of provost of The Sage Colleges. Beatty will replace retiring provost Terry Weiner, Ph.D. who has served as provost since 2010.

Jerome DeSanto Joins John Carroll as Executive Vice President

Jerome P. DeSanto, Ed.D., joined John Carroll University as executive vice president, effect March 17, 2014. DeSanto most recently served as vice president for planning and chief information officer for The University of Scranton.

Dr. Graciela Slesaransky-Poe, associate professor of education and Frank and Evelyn Steinbrucker '42 Endowed Chair at Arcadia University, has been appointed founding dean of the University's School of Education. The appointment is effective June 1. Read more.
Dr. Michael A. Crouch has been named dean of Samford University's McWhorter School of Pharmacy effective July 1, 2014. Crouch, an accomplished educator, clinician and researcher, currently serves as executive associate dean and professor at East Tennessee State University's Gatton College of Pharmacy, Johnson City. Valparaiso University has named Jennifer A. Ziegler, Ph.D., as dean of the Graduate School and Continuing Education, effective June 30, 2014. Ziegler currently serves on Valpo's faculty as graduate program director and associate professor of communication. Read more.
Linda L. Ammons will retire as dean of Widener University's School of Law at the end of the current academic year. Ammons has led the two-campus school for eight years and is the senior African American female dean of a law school in the United States. Ammons has agreed to serve as counsel to Harris for legal education for the upcoming academic year. Read more.

Samford, Westminster Students Receive Prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships
|
Westminster College's Chrono Nu, a neuroscience and mathematics major, and Samford University junior Rebekah Brooks, were recently selected to receive the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, one of the most prestigious undergraduate academic honors in the country. They are among only 283 undergraduate students in the 2014-15 academic year selected for the award given to students in the science, engineering and mathematics field. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Heidi Northwood, professor of philosophy at Nazareth College, on her new position as dean of liberal arts at Wilfred Laurier University in Brantford, Ontario. At Nazareth, Dr. Northwood took the lead in implementing and integrating the core, the portfolio and outcomes assessment, experiential learning, and, recently, career services. She also was extensively involved in the NAC&U Teagle Project.
