Dry conditions mean continued burn ban

The Whatcom County Fire Marshal continues to tweak the burn ban as recent wet weather has failed to alleviate dry conditions as much as expected.

When the Point Roberts Shell Center removed one of its large coolers, employee Chuck Laird and his wife Tia came up with a design for a beach-themed seating area that customers are taking to with enthusiasm.

Recent and widespread publicity about Canadians being permanently banned from the U.S. after admitting to having smoked marijuana in the past has politicians on both sides of the border concerned.


Character plan committee to hold special meeting

The Point Roberts Character Plan Advisory Committee's September meeting was not held due to lack of quorum. 

The committee's next regular meeting is scheduled for October 11, but the committee has proposed a special meeting for September 25 to discuss the county's review of the new draft character plan.

Fire district offers surplus to community members

The Point Roberts Fire District 5 is offering surplussed items to members of the community on a first-come-first-seved basis. Three refrigerators, one standard electric stove and one microwave are available for free to those who need them.
