A cross-border crowd turns out
to celebrate and raise some more money

Offer enough good food, drinks, music and communal goodwill, and people will open up their wallets and give to a good cause. According to Jennifer Urquhart, treasurer of the Cross-Border Coalition to Stop the Towers, that's exactly what people did on March 5 at a fundraiser held at Kiniski's Reef Tavern on Gulf Road.

Beware the tides of March!

High wind, high tide and low atmospheric pressures combined late on March 9 and early March 10 to bring seawater and debris splashing over the seawall on Bayview Drive in Maple Beach. Gale winds of 35-45 knots and wave heights between 4 and 7 feet were forecasted by the National Weather Service for inland waters from the San Juan Islands north.

Fire commissioner Jeff Wilmot resigns

Fire district commissioner Jeff Wilmot has resigned his position as of Wednesday, March 9. In a letter to fellow commissioners, Wilmot wrote, "Declining health no longer permits my contribution at the level necessary to perform my duties." Wilmot suffers from Parkinson's Disease.
