Maple Beach community
welcomes Little Free Library

Two dozen Maple Beach property owners and community members gathered at the Maple Beach park on the corner of Derby Avenue and Maple Street to unveil a new custom-built Little Free Library.

At the May 25 dedication of the library, local librarian Rose Momsen said the freestanding library was "not a place to dump your books," but a way to share great books in good condition with your neighbors. The Friends of the Point Roberts Library (FOPRL) brought the idea to the Point and "we thought Maple Beach would be a good location," Momsen said.

The idea behind the Little Free Library movement is to encourage everyone to read by making books free and available. The little library will be stocked with donated books and everyone is welcome to take one, Momsen said, while anyone with books in good condition is welcome to add them to the collection.

Maple Beach Property Owners Association president Paul Bemister said the little library was a welcome addition to the park, developed and owned by the association. "We at Maple Beach like to share," Bemister said; not just books but the whole park. "Come here. Enjoy it," he said.
