Surprise upset in fire district election

With no ballots left to count at the county auditors office, current fire district commissioner Jeff Wilmot appears to have come from behind and held onto his seat.

Challenger Craig Carter, who came out ahead in early results, was behind following the November 13 ballot count, with 187 votes to Wilmot's 204. Final election results will be certified November 26.

Digging in at Lighthouse Marine Park

Construction is underway at Lighthouse Marine Park to replace the dock and make other improvements.

Construction company HB Hansen is removing a section of potholed asphalt in order to repave it for parking. Rod Lamb of Whatcom County Parks and Recreation said he expects the paving to be completed in the next two weeks.

The bulk of the improvements at the park will be made in the summer of 2014.

For more information on the project, contact Lamb at 360/733-2900.

Chief Christopher Carleton unveiled the new calendar featuring the Point's painted hydrants at the November 13 fire district meeting.

The calendars will be for sale through the firefighters association for $20, with half of the money raised going to cover costs and the rest to be handed over to local charities.
