Ship will stay sunk off Point Roberts
Bellingham fisherman Steve Christensen and his crew are safe after their boat sank in more than 200 feet of water off Point Roberts last week.
At 3:30 p.m. on September 5 the U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call from the Sea Breaker, a 50-foot seiner approximately two miles southeast of the Point. The vessel was reported to have capsized and the five crewmembers were rescued by another fishing vessel before the boat sank. |

Skagit River bridge to be installed this Saturday
Southbound travel on Interstate 5 is about to experience another minor hiccup as workers move to place the newly built replacement span across the Skagit River this weekend. With the girders and rail system for the big move already in place, the final step, pouring the concrete deck, was completed earlier this week, setting up crews to finish the months-long construction project. The current plan has the span sliding into place late Saturday, September 14 once the concrete has fully cured, and drivers motoring across a new, permanent span on Sunday morning. For more information on expected delays, read story. |
