Party like it's Independence Day on the Point

On July 4 the traditional parade will start at noon from the Reef and wend its way down Gulf Road to the marina's overflow parking lot, making it just a short stroll to the party at the Pier. The theme this year is "Remember When." Heather McPhee, president of Point Roberts Chamber of Commerce encourages spectators to bring canned goods and non-perishable items to the parade route, where the Wackie Walkers will pick them up as a donation to the local food bank.

At the community center, Point Roberts Seniors Association and PREP will be selling hot dogs, soda and snacks from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Brewster's Fine Foods and Caffe Capanna will also be open all day serving food.

Head to the Pier Restaurant and Grill right after the parade for a beer garden and an outdoor barbecue with live music and kids' activities. "We will have a dunk tank and we're doing other carnival booths to benefit Dollars for Students," said restaurant manager Tamra Hansen. The party will wrap up with fireworks at dusk.
