Parks board to discuss skate park

Hayden Kelly earns his living riding a skateboard, and as a kid he honed his craft at the Point Roberts skate park.

He'll be at the Point Roberts Parks and Recreation board meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the community center, where the condition of the facility, and it's future, are on the agenda. The board will discuss the deteriorating skate park and whether it should be removed or repaired.

If you want to be involved in the discussion, don't miss this meeting. For more information, call Mark Robbins at 945-1375.
Point Roberts gains five new EMTs

Point Roberts fire chief and paramedic Chris Carleton with three of five department members who have successfully completed training as emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and are in the process of gaining national certification: Aaron Jackson (l.) Ryan Green, Christina Tersakian (r.) as well as Jerry Aguiar and Sean McLean (not pictured).

Through a program designed to increase training availability to isolated locations the group combined six months of online training with hands on training on Shaw Island and training provided by Carleton in Point Roberts. "By the end of the month we'll have five people able to serve this community as EMTs," said Carleton, bringing the total number of medical responders on the roster to 17.

At the June 12 fire district meeting Tersakian gave much of the credit for their success to the time and encouragement Carleton gave the group. "It's all thanks to you," she said.

PRCAC asks for increased spending flexibility

The Point Roberts Community Advisory Committee (PRCAC) will be asking legislators for increased flexibility in how they can spend gas tax revenues.

"We and other local organizations are writing letters to state Senator Doug Ericksen and state representatives Vincent Buys and Jason Overstreet alerting them that we need to make these changes," said committee chair Arthur Reber.
