Shop for charity

Auntie Pam's Country Store has launched a new fundraising program to turn gently used clothes into cash for local groups and other causes.

Two days into the program, Pamala Sheppard reports, "the sales and response have been great!"

The way it works, Sheppard said, is that donors bring in clean clothing in good condition and specify which charity they want the sale of the items to support. Auntie Pam's sells the items and 50 percent of the ticket price goes to the specified charity. "I've got a whole room packed with clothes," she said. "The food bank could be making an extra $200 a month. So could the seniors. Everybody has cute stuff they don't wear or doesn't fit. So make it count for something that matters!"

In the first two days of the program Sheppard said she had already collected $70 for the Mark Richards Fund. Other charities clothes are tagged for include the Point Roberts Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), the new library building fund, the food bank and the B.C. Kidney Fund. Sheppard said all the donor has to do is bring her the goods, and the name and address of their chosen charity. At the end of the month she will send the charity a check.

To donate, bring your items into Auntie Pam's Country Store at 1480 Gulf Road from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
