Annual Easter egg hunt

The Point Roberts primary school Parent Teacher Organization's annual egg hunt is ready to go this weekend with more than 1,000 eggs ready for eager treasure-seekers.

On Saturday, March 30 all children in grade three or younger are welcome to join in the annual Easter egg hunt at the primary school starting at 1 p.m. "They go fast, so don't be late," said Deb Wilkowski from the primary school. Different hunting areas are established for younger and older children, to keep toddlers from being outclassed by savvy third-graders.

Parking is not available at the primary school during the hunt but is available at the parking lot at the fire station on Benson Road. Wilkowski said families should give themselves a little extra time to walk up the road to the school.
A Night for Mark Richards

Local resident Mark Richards is getting back on his feet, literally, after a massive stroke, and he is grateful to have his community and family behind his recovery.
"The community of Point Roberts has really come up to bat," he said. The biggest outpouring of support is a planned fundraiser at Kiniski's Reef.

On Saturday, March 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kiniski's Reef Tavern there will a silent auction and a series of raffles with more than 100 prizes and auction items including golf packages, artwork, services, building materials, household items and more.

The event will feature live music by Joe Staples and will be hosted by master of ceremonies Ellen Mertens. Mark Richards will thank his supporters through a video presentation. The main raffle prize, a 55-inch 3-D television and Blu-ray player donated by TSB Shipping and openbox.ca, is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Pedal Pushers has donated a chopper cruiser bike by Nirve which will be raffled off at 10 p.m.

For those who can't attend the March 30 event, she said, trust accounts have been established at both local banks, and they are looking for ideas and assistance with future fundraising efforts.
