Fire district commissioners decline increased tax levy

Fire district commissioners agreed to not take a one-percent increase in the tax levy as allowed by Washington State.

At their November 12 meeting commissioners unanimously approved a $540,298 budget based on no increase in the tax levy. "Our budget is done. It's excellent. I don't think we need the increase," said commissioner Stan Riffle. "I couldn't agree more," Jeff Wilmot answered. Bill Meursing concurred. The one percent increase would have added approximately $5,000 to the budget.

The district's capital fund and reserve fund will each grow by $47,500 under the 2013 budget, and the district is budgeting more than double what they did in 2012 for legal bills. Read more about what is and isn't in the 2013 fire district budget in the next All Point Bulletin
