3Rs Lesson Five Teaching Tips

Please review the full email for important 3Rs information!

This Friday, Feb. 20, is the regularly scheduled 3Rs Lesson Five classroom visit - Equal Protection.  The student worksheets for Lesson Five are now available at the CMBA offices.  We ask that captains or team representatives please stop by for pickup before this Friday's lesson, unless alternative arrangements have been made.  If you prefer to print this month's materials rather than pick them up, you can access a PDF version of the worksheets by clicking here

OGT Study Guide:  Included with this month's student worksheets is an Ohio Graduation Test Quick Study Guide.  Please encourage the students to use this guide to help them prepare for the test in March.  To view a copy of the guide, click here.

School closings: We encourage you to check with the schools the day of your 3Rs class in case inclement weather has forced the school to close.  Phone numbers for the schools may be found on the information sheet sent to you attached to your original assignment email.  To check for closings online, click here.  If you discover your school has been closed on Friday, please notify your captain and teammates and Jessica Paine at (216) 696-3525 x4462.  Team captains are asked to reschedule 3Rs lessons cancelled due to school closings according to your teacher and teammates' preferences.

Team feedback: Your feedback is vital to the program. Team captains: please let us know about your experience during the first four visits, especially names of teammates whom you were unable to contact and any issues that need to be resolved before Friday's lesson.

Questions, concerns, feedback: Please contact us by email or telephone - Jessica Paine at [email protected] or (216) 696-3525 x4462.

Thank you again for your commitment to the students!

Programs for students of Cleveland & East Cleveland Schools

Please encourage your 3Rs teachers to talk to their 11th and 12th grade students about the following extracurricular opportunities this year.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Legal Academy (SLA)

In the SLA, minority high school students from schools throughout Cuyahoga County are provided the opportunity to participate in a two-week, full-day intensive law institute combining academic and work experiences. The Academy presents a case and takes students through the discovery, interview process, and development of both the prosecution and defense sides of the case, and culminates in a Mock Trial experience, under the supervision of lawyers and judges. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn a one-month part-time internship and a small stipend. The top student in the program is rewarded with a scholarship. For more about the SLA and for a link to the application (due March 27), visit www.clemtrobar.org/SLA.

Louis Stokes Scholars Program

The Stokes Scholars Program is a pipeline diversity initiative through which college students engage in paid summer legal internships of eight-week duration at Cleveland law firms, courts, and legal nonprofits.  Participating students, known as Stokes Scholars, must be graduates of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District or East Cleveland Municipal School District and enrolled in college or scheduled to begin college in the fall following the summer program.   Students are matched with an attorney-mentor, who helps ensure the experience provides a good introduction into the profession and also provides career counseling.  For more about the Stokes Scholars Program and for a link to the application (deadline March 20), visit www.clemetrobar.org/Stokes_Scholars.
