Generations of Giving Campaign Update

What is the purpose of collecting stewardship pledges?

At a very basic level, stewardship pledges provide the means for the Church to plan for the coming year of ministries and worship activities that accomplish, on a daily basis, the work of Christ in this world. Specifically, the stewardship pledging effort recurs annually to provide an expectation of contributions in the coming year needed to create our budget. That budget includes everything we need to run the church. We ask that you consider setting aside a portion of your "first fruits" to support the daily life and work of the Church.

As of today we have received 362 pledges for a total of $1,811,913.

Thank you for your pledge!

Seeds for Growth! planter

Wonderful stories are unfolding in our church every day: Stories of faith, devotion, and love for our neighbors. Great things truly are happening here. But if we're to continue with great things, if we are to continue to grow, your help is needed.

Please pick up a CSMSG business card(s) from the "planters" located in the Narthex and Great Hall. Plant one of CSMSG's "Seeds for Growth" in the hand of a friend who is looking to be a part of a wonderful story and a church community. We need your help to help us grow!

In addition, there will be a Bouncy Castle Moonwalk, a Pony Ride, and a Petting Zoo featuring special animals this year! There is a cost of $5.00 per person for unlimited participation in these activities!

And, just a reminder - during the summer, the Preschool-3rd Graders meet together in the undercroft for lectionary-based activities. The children will join their parents in church at the time of the Peace.

See you Sunday at 10:00 AM!

Church Service League/Susan Mount
11 AM    Great Hall

On Tuesday, May 21, CSL/SM held its last official meeting for the year after Father Wheeler's Bible Class. After sharing a delicious lunch, we held our annual meeting. During the meeting, officers were elected and members voted for this year's donation of funds to various groups, including some from CSMSG and others within the diocese.

On May 28 at 10 AM, we will gather to fold layettes for CSMSG's World Service Mission to Nicaragua. CSL member Carol Moppins works hard in this effort to support the Church's Nicaragua Mission. We welcome all who are willing to help...especially men! Come and finally see what these women are up to on Tuesday afternoons and support the Nicaragua Mission!

Please note: After folding layettes for the World Service Mission on May 28, CSL/SM will take a summer recess and resume Tuesday, September 10.

A very enthusiastic church school attendee built this delicious concoction as a way of demonstrating the parable, "The Wise and the Foolish Builders." Cool Whip and icing composed the "cement" holding it all together!

The Three T's
Support CSMSG's mission trip to Nicaragua with the three T's:  Travel-size toiletries, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
Do you, your friends, and/or your co-workers travel frequently? Don't forget to save (unopened) hotel toiletries for the 2013 mission trip to Nicaragua. Missioners take toiletry bags of soap, shampoo, lotion, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to the patients at the women's and children's hospital in Managua. Last year, we distributed over 300 bags of these helpful hygiene packets.
Toothbrushes and toothpaste go to the students at the Santa Rosa and Carolina de Sirker schools for healthy and bright smiles! Perhaps your dentist has extras?
All donations can be dropped off at the Nicaragua donation closet, located across from the Church library.

The Nicaragua Mission Wish List 2013 is posted on the "Faith in Action" bulletin board.
We'll be packing "second suitcases" to Nicaragua on July 13.

Canterbury Bookstore

Ann Babington spiffing up the bookstore.

The Canterbury Bookstore will close early today so that everyone can enjoy the Parish Picnic in the Street. However, a book signing will be held at the picnic! John Tyler will be signing and discussing his book, Centennial: 100 Years at the Point. The Church of St. Michael and All Angels, founded in 1912, was the first Episcopal parish at "The Point" of Ellenwood Avenue and Wydown Boulevard. The second and current parish is The Church of St. Michael & St. George, formed in 1928 with the merger of the first parish and St. George's Protestant Episcopal Church, founded in 1845. This book surveys the rich history of these three parishes.

It's time for the Bookstore's great Summer Clearance Sale! All books, Bibles and prayer books are 20% off through June 23. Don't wait too long to stop by the Bookstore and take advantage of this opportunity. Sorry, no special orders.

Greet the summer season with an entertaining book to enjoy. Stop by and browse the titles currently in stock. Justification: God's Plan and Paul's Vision by N.T. Wright is a lively and irenic (aimed at peace and reconciliation) book that is an important contribution for those in the middle and on various sides of the debate of what Paul means by "justification".  In this book, Wright offers a comprehensive account and defense of his perspective on this crucial doctrine.

Store hours: Sunday 8:30-11:30 AM, Monday 10 AM-Noon, Thursdays 10 AM-3 PM, and Friday 9 AM-Noon

The Knitting Ministry
knitting demo The Knitting Ministry has been active at CSMSG since 2004. Its mission is to offer love, comfort, and prayers to fellow parishioners and friends through knitted objects: Mantles of Comfort, Baby Blankets of Love, and Chemo Caps. On the second Saturday of the month, there is a luncheon gathering where knitters share experiences, get to know one another, and knit together. Prayerful knitting nurtures the knitters as well as the recipients of the knitted objects. For more information, contact Nicki Gillis at nickigillis@att.net.

Good Neighbors
Please be considerate of our neighbors on Ellenwood and Wydown. Take advantage of the complimentary valet parking on Sundays and do not park in front of driveways.

Valet Parking

Valet service by Midwest Parking will be available on Sunday mornings for elderly parishioners and those with special needs. This valuable service is being provided by an anonymous benefactor. Thank you for this very generous gift!

Altar Flowers

Please consider giving flowers in celebration of a special event, in honor or in memory of a loved one. Order forms are available near the Ellenwood narthex.

Birth Announcements Needed

Please contact Debbie Fenner at debbie@csmsg.org or 314.721.1502 when there is a birth in your family, so we can properly welcome the new baby into the parish family.

CSMSG Pre-Primary Enrollment

We are currently accepting applications for our parish's two pre-primary programs: 18-24 months on Thursday and Friday mornings from 8:30-11:30 AM, and two to three years on Monday through Wednesday mornings from 8:30-11:30 AM. We are also offering a five-morning schedule for both classes. Our programs are taught by a degreed teacher and have proven quite successful since their inception.
