Stewardship
Stewardship logo
This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. It is a time we prepare our hearts and souls for the birth of Christ. It is a time of expectation, of watchfulness, and a time of self-examination. We examine our stewardship of time, abilities and money and consider how we are using all three for the proclaiming of God's kingdom.

Thank you for your pledge, it will go toward building God's kingdom. To date we have received 218 pledges for a total of  $1,366,226.

A Candlelight Service of
           Advent Lessons and Carols

5 PM     Church
A wonderful and meaningful way to usher in the season of Advent is through the service of Advent Lessons and Carols. This service, originally composed by The Very Reverend Eric Milner-White for use at King's College Chapel, Cambridge, proclaims in word and song the promise of God to redeem the world through the Advent of His Son. The metaphoric procession through the liturgy - from darkness into light - is intended to prepare the worshipper for the coming of the true Light, Jesus Christ. This service has a become a favorite throughout the community, with a festive reception following in the Great Hall.

Count down the days with a small card-style or paper-sized decorative type or the fascinating refrigerator magnet to delight anyone. There are gifts and cards for everyone on your list. Let us help you: from choosing the gift to imprinting it, then wrapping it and perhaps even shipping it out the door. Our suggestions this week for your Advent season: O Come Emmanuel by Gordon Giles will make Christmas special this year by exploring the legends, message and theology behind some of your favorite carols and hymns. God Is In the Manger by Dietrich Bonhoeffer is a collection of 41 devotions that guide and inspire readers as they move thematically through the weeks of Advent and Christmas, from waiting and mystery to redemption, incarnation and joy. The Twenty-four Days Before Christmas by Madeleine L'Engle is a delightful and engaging tale of one family's traditions of Advent and a year when things may change.

Don't forget the Bookstore is open during the week.  Be sure to visit Canterbury through the holiday season. We look forward to seeing you soon.

The Knitting Ministry

knitting demo The Knitting Ministry has been active at St. Michael's since 2004. Its mission is to offer love, comfort and prayers to fellow parishioners and friends through knitted objects--Mantles of Comfort, Baby Blankets of Love and Chemo Caps. On the second Saturday of the month, there is a luncheon gathering where knitters share experiences, get to know one another and knit together. Prayerful knitting nurtures the knitters as well as the recipients of the knitted objects. For more information, contact Nicki Gillis at nickigillis@att.net.
