Tap That Pumpkin

Trick-or-Treaters delight in all of the sights of All Hallow's Eve. Clearly not just for children anymore, Halloween has become a great celebration to stop being yourself for a night and become whoever or whatever you want to be. Cities across America have dedicated Halloween parties to bring out the ghoulie in you. Are you throwing your own Halloween party? Then wow your guest by serving beer from a pumpkin! As seen across the internet in the last few years, serving beer from a pumpkin isn't all that difficult and only requires a few tools: Pumpkin, Drill, Spigot, & Beer.

  1. Get a pumpkin. The bigger the better and depending on your party size, you might want to get two. Hollow out the pumpkin and thin the inside of the walls a bit.

  2. Drill a hole where your spigot will go near the bottom of the pumpkin. Make sure the hole is big enough to push the spigot through but small enough that it creates a tight fit and doesn't leak

  3. Insert spigot. Ensure tight fit. Test spigot with water first. If everything is pouring correctly and there's no leaks....

  4. BEER! Don't limit yourself to a pumpkin beer either. Yes, this seem like the best fit here but experiment a little with a brown sugar maple porter or a malty Scotch ale. The pumpkin will have a slight effect on the beer, very subtle but fresh pumpkin taste, but in no way will over power what ever beer you choose to use.

Happy Halloween folks!

(This is the part where we tell you to be safe and make good choices.)

Cheers!

Due South Gateway Session IPA

Our easy drinking Session IPA is brewed with warm, thirsty South Florida days in mind. While the lower alcohol content ensures its approachability, a blend of Chinook, Cascade, and Columbus hops deliver a nice, citrusy hoppy aroma, flavor, and bite. This is an IPA to be enjoyed often. 4.4% ABV

Funky Buddha Sweet Potato Casserole

For our original fall release, Funky Buddha decided to create a beer that strayed from the pumpkin mold, instead patterning it after this eponymous Thanksgiving dish. And here's a novel thought: we actually brew it in the Fall as well, around November, so you can drink it at the same time that you're tucking into your Thanksgiving feast. At nearly 8%, it's a big, rich, sticky beer full of sweet potato and marshmallow flavor. AVAILABLE NEXT WEEK 7.9% ABV

Rooney's Veterans

This Munich-style Helles is a refreshing blond lager with the perfect balance between soft malty-bready notes & spicy American hops. Light-bodied, dry,  crisp & clean throughout. 4.4% ABV

Alchemist Distillery

Madagascar Vanilla Bean and Florida Orange Peel Whiskey.  40% Alcohol Volume. AVAILABLE NEXT WEEK

Lindemans Gift Pack

The Lindemans Sampler is designed to make it simple to experience a range of fruit lambics - Belgian ales fermented with wild yeast - from this family-owned brewery established in 1822. It's a great gift: these beers are so tasty and unique that Lindemans are the best-selling lambics in the US.

Magic Hat Snow Roller
TAKE YOUR SOUL FOR A ROLL
Winter calls for walls of white and the Snow Roller begins his work. Riding in on wicked winds, he dusts the naked trees and covers the brown barren fields that gasp a bitter breath at the touch of snow. No place is left free of flurry by his icy surf, save for those gathered together in good spirits. Bundle up and let the Snow Roller take your soul for a roll. 6
.2% ABV

Saltwater Brewery Octo-Festbier
Octo-Festbier pours an amber color with a toffee and tropical fruit nose. The toffee flavor follows through with the first sip and finishes with a tropical fruit finish. This beer is perfect for the Florida "Fall" weather. 5.8% ABV

Saltwater Brewery Pumpkin Puffer Stout
The aroma of our Pumpkin Puffer Stout explodes with all of the smells one would expect when baking a pumpkin pie. Cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and of course, roasted pumpkin are the dominate flavors of this beer. At first sip all of these spices cover your palate and leave a subtle aftertaste. This beer is a perfect pairing with your Thanksgiving dessert. 6.51% ABV

Twisted Pine Hop Zealot
We crafted this ale for those-some call them fanatics-devoted to the bountiful bines of the hop plant. Hop Zealot pours like a golden beam of sunshine with a massive blast of hop aroma that'll make a true believer out of any IPA lover. Drain every last drop and beseech the bottle for more, but do not forsake your friends... They're thirsty too!      6.7% ABV
Twisted Pine La Petite Saison
La Petite Saison is a beautifully crafted beer brewed in the Belgian farmhouse style. The award-winning ale relies on Pilsener malt and white wheat, gently flattered with German Perle, Czech Saaz and American Willamette hops which add subtle, yet intricate flavoring to the beer. The Belgian yeast headlines the show, lacing palates with the delicate, floral esters for which the style is known. LPS is a smooth sipper with a crisp finish, and at 5.3% ABV skirts the upper range of session territory.
Twisted Pine AuDACITY
To celebrate 19 years of brewing pretty much whatever we feel like, our crew turned to the devilishly imaginative Belgians for inspiration. AuDACITY combines Old World ingredients with homegrown Colorado crystal hops to form a shimmering, smooth and deceptively easy-to-drink treat. So grab a glass of gold and help us say cheers to 19 years!    9% ABV
Southern Tier Tier De Garde
Tier de Garde is a Belgian Style India Pale Ale brewed with grapefruit peel. It is the third in our acclaimed Belgian Style Series. Tier de Garde is akin to a Belgian Tripel crossed with an American IPA. Deep copper in color with a thick, rocket white head and persistent lacing. It is noticeably hazy with yeast and sediment visible. Carefully pour it into your favorite glass. Citrusy, hoppy and spicy with some sweetness in the aroma, while being dry and effervescent on the tongue. The flavor is bitter and spicy, peppery and grapefruit zest is apparent. Also expect floral and apricot/pear notes 8.1% ABV

BEER NEWS
Craft brewer buys up all the Count Chocula
By: Josie Sexton

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The case of the missing Count Chocula cereal boxes was solved Friday, when a craft brewer admitted to buying them to brew in a small-batch beer.

Black Bottle Brewery in Fort Collins bought two Albertsons' inventories of the iconic chocolate and marshmallow-bit cereal, puzzling at least one shopper in the process.

"Every year I greatly look forward to the month of October when I can purchase a few boxes of this delicious chococlatey (sic) goodness," Kristen Clark wrote in a letter to the Coloradoan.

NOLA Brewing Launches Florida with Brown Distributing

New Orleans craft brewery, NOLA Brewing Company, has signed a distribution agreement with Brown Distributing for the vast majority of Florida.

In 2008, Kirk Coco and Peter Caddoo (former Brewmaster at Dixie Brewing Company) began their initial dream of bringing production and manufacturing back to New Orleans, founding NOLA Brewing Company. Since Dixie's departure from the city in 2005, NOLA Brewing is the only operating production brewery in the city of New Orleans and Orleans Parish. Since their opening, NOLA has made a name for itself brewing high quality, highly rated ales and lagers in the heart of Louisiana and will be offering a full line-up to the Sunshine State. They will initially launch with Rebirth Pale Ale, Hopitoulas IPA, MECHA Imperial IPA and Irish Channel Stout. 7th Street Wheat is slated to roll into Florida by Summer 2015.

This Craft Beer Made with Seawater Is (Almost) Hangover-Free
By: Charlie Norton

It's Saturday afternoon and I'm deep down in the sofa watching the footie with a few cold ones from a small fridge within arm's reach, and all is right with the world. More than alright to be honest, because I don't seem to be getting up as often as usual to go piss like an incontinent racehorse. Maybe my bladder is super strong today, but just maybe it's the beer.

I've smugly stumbled on a great craft beer from near Valencia called Er Boqueron, which is made from the purest Mediterranean sea water. It unassumingly contains one of the best mineral contents of any beer yet to rehydrate as you drink, and unbelievably it's really refreshing, tastes a little hoppy, and comes with an alcoholic kick. It even helps replenish electrolytes after sport, and seems to be accidentally making ground on the impossible quest for one of the holy grails of brewing: a tasty, alcoholic beer with not too noxious a hangover.

Porter Ginger Glazed Salmon

By:  Jackie

INGREDIENTS:

3 tbs olive oil

¼ cup porter beer

2 tbs soy sauce

2 cloves garlic, grated with a microplane

1 tbs grated ginger

1 tbs brown sugar

4 salmon fillets

1 tbs sesame seeds

3 tbs green onions

DIRECTIONS:

In a medium bowl stir together the olive oil, beer, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, brown sugar. Add the salmon. Allow to marinate at room temperature for 15 minutes.

Preheat the broiler. Add the salmon to a baking sheet that has been covered with aluminum foil, pour the marinade into a saucepan.

Bring the marinade to a boil, stirring frequently until thickened, about 6 minutes.

Brush salmon with glaze, place under broiler for 2 minutes, remove from oven, re-brush with glaze and broil for two minutes, repeating this step until salmon flakes easily with fork.

Plate salmon, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.
