Did Summer seem short this year? Here we are at Labor Day, the official end of Summer, and it seems like a blink. Maybe it was the basketball playoffs rolling right into the World Cup that kept my attention away from the blistering heat outside. All those sports highlights certainly kept the Dog Days at bay by keeping my attention off the slowness of the season. And here we are again, right back at the beginning of football season. As the college teams snap on their head gear and get ready to lock horns in the first games of the year this weekend, I begin to think about how time perpetually seems to speed up right about now.
Before you know it, we will be halfway through Pro football season and on our way straight into the Thanksgiving and Winter Holiday season. Hard to imagine when you are sweating it out in Florida but really it is coming fast. Maybe it is because we get so busy this time of year? Maybe it is the rhythm of our never ending schedules? Kids to school, work, work, work, dinner, gym, beer, shows, weekends, football, events, brunch, shopping, repeat.
We should slow down though. Enjoy the moment. Get together with friends, crack open a few beers that we have been saving, watch that sunset and soak it all in. Don't let the time slip away so fast....it is these times that make life worth living and Labor Day is that last vestige of Summer to remind yourself of that. In the immortal words of Simon and Garfunkle..."Slow down, you move to fast...you've got to make the moment last."
Take your time and enjoy and have a great holiday weekend.

It is orange in color with a full rich taste that makes you want more....we carbonate the cider, cold- filter it four times before we bottle and keg it. This cider is released after Labor Day and is ideal for Halloween through Thanksgiving; although some customers think we should make it year round. 5.0% ABV
|

Founders Dissenter
It's been a dozen years since we've brewed a lager-and, true to form, we're going big with Dissenter India Pale Lager, our argument in favor of the potential for complex lagers. Brewed with a wide variety of tropical, citrus-forward hops, Dissenter clocks in at 8.7% ABV and 70 IBUs. Our ales are fermented at warm temperatures, but this lager is fermented cold, using a different kind of yeast. The longer brewing process used for lagers gives Dissenter an exceptionally clean finish, allowing you to appreciate the clear beauty of the hops as you would a well thought out, eloquent dissenting opinion. We'll let this one speak for itself.

Terrapin Liquid Bliss
We always love a good experimental brew here at Terrapin, but the salty-sweet combo of peanuts and chocolate has us all salivating a little more than usual. This brew, while smooth and mellow, still manages to challenge your tastebuds. The porter base is dark and smooth, with enough backbone to support the richer chocolate and peanut butter additions. It's even dry "peanuted" with brewery-boiled green peanuts! Here's to the candy-loving kid in all of us! 6.7 % ABV
Now available year round and in 12oz bottles!

Should Beer Be Served Cold?
By: Matt Miller
It is a humorous stereotype that Americans like their beer extremely cold - almost freezing - so that when they visit the UK, they are shocked at the fat that much pub beer is served at room temperature. There are arguments for and against the proper serving temperature of food, wine, liquor, and beer. Much of it is personal preference. But there are actually reasons behind the theory, and it is surprising to many beer drinkers that some beers are not meant to be chilled.
The idea behind temperatures in Gastronomy is this: the warmer the food or drink, the more its flavors are perceived by the tongue. That is certainly an axiom of taste. See, food and drinks often have broad, rich, deep flavor profiles, and the colder they are served, the less of this flavor profile that is discernible to the palate. This is certainly true of beer. Just as it is impossible to hear all of the nuances of a great song at a low volume, so is it impossible to really experience a great beer if it is served too cold.

Every State in the USA, Ranked by Beer

By: Ben Robinson and Andy Kryza and Matt Lynch
It's a great time to be drinking beer in America. Not that it was ever, you know, a BAD time to be doing that necessarily, but with craft breweries multiplying like rabbits who've been drinking beer, you can literally find some serviceable (if not downright tasty) local brews in all 50 states. Which made the process of ranking them all the more difficult, but we were up to the challenge, especially since it meant drinking and thinking about beer for weeks straight.
Here they are, all 50 states in the Union, ranked according to their beer. A couple notes about our criteria. Quantity and quality are both important, but quality's a bit MORE important. If you're a small state turning out a disproportionate amount of great beer, it did not go unrecognized. We also gave a boost to states who played a historical role in American beer as we know it today. We also argued a lot, so if you want to do that as well, please join us in the comments!

Jeff Gordon savors craft beer like a NASCAR win
By: Dan Gelston
Jeff Gordon may as well have been any average sports fan, sliding up to the bar and ordering a beer.
But for a guy who has mastered winemaking as well as he has winning races, Gordon needed a remedial course on the finer points of handling a cold one.
"Do you smell the beer like you do with wine?" Gordon asked.
He raised the glass to his nose, inhaled the fruity complexity and pungent hoppiness of a Dogfish Head 61, and started to drink.
One sip turned into two sips. And with a few more swigs, Gordon was suddenly the Delaware version of TV barfly Norm Peterson.
"I could drink this all day," Gordon said, to the delight of the Dogfish Head staff.

Buttermilk Beer Pancakes feat. Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale
INGREDIENTS:
2 eggs, divided ½ tsp cream of tartar ½ cup Samuel Smith Nut Brown Ale ¼ cup buttermilk (or heavy cream) 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup flour 2 tbs sugar 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp baking soda 3 tbs butter
DIRECTIONS:
Set out a stand mixer (or a bowl and a hand mixer), a small bowl and a large bowl. Separate the eggs, putting the whites in the stand mixer and the yolks in the small bowl. Add the cream of tartar to the egg whites and beat on high until stiff peaks form, about 5 minutes.
Add the beer, buttermilk, and vanilla to the egg yolks, beat until well combined. In the large bowl stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda.
Add the yolk mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until combined. Gently fold the egg whites into the pancake batter.
Add the butter to a preheated griddle (preheated to 350) or large skillet over medium high heat, push around until melted. About ¼ cup at a time, pour the pancake batter on the preheated surface.
Allow to cook until bubbles form in the center, flip and allow to cook until golden brown on the underside.
