All in the ABV- The Session Beer
Craft beer has trends, much like anything else in the world. We have seen big beers, fruit beers, sour beers and so on. From these trends a new favorite is often created, leaving it's mark. The word "sessionable" keeps popping up left and right in the craft beer world, what exactly does it mean and where did it originate? Session beers are all about the ABV. Beer Advocate defines a session beer as, "Any beer that contains no higher than 5 percent ABV, featuring a balance between malt and hop characters (ingredients) and, typically, a clean finish - a combination of which creates a beer with high drinkability." The session beer is believed to have originated in Britain and referred to a beer that was easy to drink and that one could enjoy all day long and at high-volumes (sound familiar?)
So here in Florida this basically means bliss. A beer we can sip on all afternoon (or all day depending on your particular situation), enjoy with friends somewhere near the water or a backyard barbecue preferably.
Grab a great session beer this weekend and cheers to the beer gods for creating such a tasty beverage!
Cheers!

Founders Dissenter Imperial IPL
It's been a dozen years since we've brewed a lager-and, true to form, we're going big with Dissenter India Pale Lager, our argument in favor of the potential for complex lagers. Brewed with a wide variety of tropical, citrus-forward hops, Our ales are fermented at warm temperatures, but this lager is fermented cold, using a different kind of yeast. The longer brewing process used for lagers gives Dissenter an exceptionally clean finish, allowing you to appreciate the clear beauty of the hops as you would a well thought out, eloquent dissenting opinion. We'll let this one speak for itself. 8.7% ABV

Beer Tasting Games to Train Your Palate
By: Mirella Amato via Craftbeer.com
Many people worry that beer appreciation and beer tasting events are starting to give beer a snobbish vibe, but it doesn't have to be that way.
Of course, it's great to learn to taste beer properly in order to better appreciate its many complex and delicious flavors, and formal beer tasting techniques have their place. For homebrewers, beer drinkers who participate in online tasting forums or apps, and people who work with beer, being familiar with proper tasting techniques is extremely useful, as it makes it easier to express and share personal impressions.

The After-Workout Beer Phenomenon
By: John W. Mitchell via Craftbeer.com
In 1978, a then undiscovered Kim Basinger appeared in a television commercial for Beer on Tap Shampoo. In the spot, Basinger looks into the camera with a brilliant smile, and announces "Brewed with one third real beer." She pauses, and then wags her finger and admonishes: "...but don't drink it!"
This year, Canadian company Lean Machine announced that it plans to release an "after-workout beer" that raises the same issue-should you drink it? With their "recovery ale," Lean Machine hopes to "create a beverage that aligns with the active lifestyle of young beer lovers, while promoting responsible drinking," according to an NPR report.

2 ice cubes (about 2-3 tbs water)
1 large peach (slightly under ripe, firm), sliced

In a pot over medium high heat add the vinegar, sugar and salt, stir until the sugar and salt has dissolved, remove from heat. Stir in the beer and ice cubes, allow mixture to cool to room temperature. Add the peaches to a bowl, pour the pickling liquid over the peaches, cover and refrigerate for 1 hour and up to three days.
Add the chicken to a large bowl or baking dish, cover with beer and buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours and up to overnight.
