The sun is beaming down on us, the air is thick with humidity, and it rains almost every day at approximately 2:33 PM on the dot. Yes...it is Summer in Florida. So why am I seeing nothing but Pumpkin beer everywhere? When did this become a Summer Beer? Our longest and most arduous season seems cut shorter and shorter by the beer industry. When breweries around the country are celebrating the nice warm weather with light ales, saisons, wheat beers and such....suddenly there is the oranges and browns of the fall leaves appearing on shelves.
Some people are excited about this. Is it because it signals the end of summer is near? That the leaves are going to start changing now? Are they just in love with this style of beer? I'm not entirely sure...but I will tell you there are still lots of delicious summer beers out there. Beers that are thirst quenching. Beers that are wonderfully light on the palate with hints of hops and spices, citrus and fruit, or just plain clean tasting and refreshing on your palate. So while the days are still long and the temperature still above 85 F on average, stop by your local watering hole or retail outlet and pick up the last of these Summer beers. Founders Dissenter
It's been a dozen years since we've brewed a lager-and, true to form, we're going big with Dissenter India Pale Lager, our argument in favor of the potential for complex lagers. Brewed with a wide variety of tropical, citrus-forward hops, Dissenter clocks in at 8.7% ABV and 70 IBUs. Our ales are fermented at warm temperatures, but this lager is fermented cold, using a different kind of yeast. The longer brewing process used for lagers gives Dissenter an exceptionally clean finish, allowing you to appreciate the clear beauty of the hops as you would a well thought out, eloquent dissenting opinion. Summer's here and many are hitting the local bar or pub gardens to enjoy the weather and a fine craft ale or refreshing lager. And with the rise of craft breweries worldwide, the global beer industry is getting more and more innovative. Along with the US, countries as diverse as Brazil and China are leading the way here. For instance, Brazilian craft brewers are using flavours like the tangy bacuri fruits and the fragrant amburana wood to combat the country's shortage of hops. But flavour isn't the only way that the beer industry is innovating, and the pint glass is no longer the only way to enjoy a brew - with these products, a wafer cone or fresh cheese and crackers may even be more appropriate.

Beer Tasting Games to Train Your Palate

Many people worry that beer appreciation and beer tasting events are starting to give beer a snobbish vibe, but it doesn't have to be that way.
Of course, it's great to learn to taste beer properly in order to better appreciate its many complex and delicious flavors, and formal beer tasting techniques have their place. For homebrewers, beer drinkers who participate in online tasting forums or apps, and people who work with beer, being familiar with proper tasting techniques is extremely useful, as it makes it easier to express and share personal impressions.
There are also specific occasions when a step-by-step analysis comes in handy. For example, when starting a beer cellar, the best way to identify how each individual beer will evolve over time is to crack open a bottle and take notes. When you pull the aged version off the cellar shelf a year (or five!) later, you can revisit your first impressions and compare them with the new qualities that have developed. The more detailed the notes, the easier it will be to spot differences.

Meet the Beer Bottle Dictator

For years, one man has approved virtually every beer label design in the United States. Among brewers, he's a tyrant. A legend.
Brewers and legal experts speak of him in hushed tones, with equal parts irritation and reverence.
"He's the king of beer. His will is law," said one lawyer who works with him regularly. The lawyer asked to remain anonymous, for fear of crossing the beer specialist. "There's one dude in the government who gets to control a multibillion-dollar industry with almost no supervision."
And he goes by the name "Battle."
Any brewery that wants to market its wares in this country needs to get it through Kent "Battle" Martin, giving the federal official extraordinary power. With only vague regulations outlining what is and isn't permissible, he approves beer bottles and labels for the Tax and Trade Bureau, or TTB, a section of the Treasury Department.

I NGREDIENTS:Uinta Trader Session IPA 4 oz. Pineapple Juice 1/2 oz. Bols Genever 1/2 oz. Honey Liqueur 3 Fresh Basil Leaves DIRECTIONS:
In a tall glass, fill with ice. Fill Uinta Trader Session IPA halfway. In a shaker tin, muddle Genever and honey liqueur with basil. Pour mixture into glass. Fill with pineapple juice. Stir all ingredients together well and enjoy!

Chocolate Lambic Cupcakes with Raspberry Cream Cheese Frosting

INGREDIENTS:
Cupcakes:
3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa 2 c. sugar 2 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking soda pinch of salt 12 oz. Framboise Lambic 1 stick butter, melted 1 tbsp. vanilla extract 3 large eggs 3/4 c. sour cream
Frosting: 8 oz. cream cheese 5 tbs. butter, softened 2 tbsp. vanilla extract 2 c. powdered sugar 6 oz. fresh raspberries, pureed
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 24 muffin tins with paper liners or spray with cooking spray.
Whisk together cocoa, sugar, flour, baking soda, and salt in a small mixing bowl.
In a large mixing bowl, stir together Lambic, melted butter, and vanilla. With hand mixer on low, beat in one egg at a time and then add sour cream. Mix until smooth.
With hand mixer still on low speed, slowly add dry mixture into the wet mixture. Beat until well-combined.
Pour batter into muffin tins, filling each 3/4 of the way full. Bake for 12 minutes; rotate pans.
Bake for another 12-13 minutes or until toothpick inserted into the center of cupcake comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.
While cupcakes are cooling, start making frosting. Use a hand mixer to beat together cream cheese, butter, and vanilla extract in a small mixing bowl. Gradually beat in powdered sugar. Fold in raspberry puree. Generously frost each cupcake.
