Summertime Summertime Sum Sum Summertime....Summertime Summertime Sum Sum Summertime is echoing through my head right now. Not that we have had a winter down here but Summer is upon us. (Ed. Note...sorry to all the northerners that read this newsletter as you have had one helluva winter).  Seems like we sped right past spring which was January to March and slid right into Summer. Enjoy the last of the cool days because the sweltering is about to begin.

One good thing about Summer in the craft beer world is that we start to see the return of the sessionable Summer Ales, Lagers, Wit beers, Wheat beers and such. Beers with lighter colors and flavors but that we probably could use all year round down in the land of Sunshine to quench our thirst on a hot winter day...lol. Yes they are back in force this year and there are lots of others types of sessionable styles like IPAs with low ABVs but with lots of hops, beers with grapefruit, beers with ginger and other spices, and beers with low ABVs mixed with fruit ala Shandy style all meant to cool you down and refresh your palate.

Whether it's time to mow the lawn,  jump on your boat to go fishing, or just lounging in the pool now is the time for the crisp refreshing summer beer....a style we should embrace all year round in Florida.

Stone Saison

A taste of our homespun farm-to-tableism is provided in this farmhouse ale stoked with lemon zest, plus lemon thyme and lavender straight from Stone Farms. This spring-to-summer saison is citric and herbal on the palate with a dry, peppery finish. Thanks to the infusion of fresh West Coast ingredients, this isn't your everyday saison. It's our saison-100% Stone. 6.0%ABV

Shipyard American Pale

This All-American Pale Ale is a refreshing session beer bursting with grapefruit citrus flavor and featuring hops from the Pacific Northwest. This APA is non-traditional in the sense that it is not intended to taste hoppy or bitter, but fresh and lively, a perfect summertime sessional beer. 4.5% ABV

Highland Brewing

20th Anniversary Scotch Ale

Rich caramel and roasted notes blend with a subtle hop nose to create an ale suited for the finest occasions. Medium-bodied, it has a brown-red hue from a Caramel malt and roasted barley. It is brewed with the finest traditional Scottish malts and English Fuggle hops. A late addition of Sterling hops imparts a slightly spicy nose, ever so subtle. 8% ABV

Coronado Sock Knocker

Amarillo, Centennial, Columbus, and Simcoe hops unite to produce an immensely floral, botanical nose and a veritable explosion of citrus and pine on the palate. With an even more obscene hop overload than our infamous Islander IPA, it's and India pale ale truly deserving of its imperial crown. 8.5% ABV

Fort Collins Maibock

A smooth malty flavor attained from the richness of Munich malts that finishes with gentle warming sweetness. Toffee notes and understated hop bitterness round out the bock experience. Brewed in the Fall, Aged in the Winter, Celebrated in the Spring. Prost! 6.4% ABV

Fort Collins Out of the Ashes
Smoked Marzen

A bomber series of limited release beers that showcase the varied and unique flavors and aromas delivered from malt smoked over wood-burning fires. This series is meant to be shared with creative food and friends. The fourth member of the series, Smoked Märzen, boasts rich caramel and molasses sweetness with a touch of nuttiness. A classic German style brewed with American boldness.

5.6% ABV

Funky Buddha More Moro Blood Orange IPA

More Moro is a citrusy, hop-forward IPA loaded with real blood orange juice. The flavor is deeply fruity, with notes of pineapple and tangerine. A sticky, caramel-laden malt body compliments the fleshy fruit, followed by a long, grapefruit hop finish. 7.2% ABV

Due South Session Pale Ale

Light, easy drinking pale ale with biscuity like malt notes and a subtle citrus hop character. 4.8% ABV

Due South Summertime Lager

In Florida it's Summertime practically all year. We created this easy drinking, full flavored craft lager with our home state in mind. German Pilsner malts provide a nice toasted flavor while crystal malts provide a slight sweetness. The living is certainly easy with a Summertime Craft Lager.  5.3% ABV

Wynwood Tuttle Stout

Tuttle Stout is our Dry-Irish Stout on Nitro.  It is named after Julia Tuttle, who is considered to be the mother of our beloved city of Miami.  This brew has a nice roasty aroma with a smooth body due to the Nitro.  It has a very nice malt character with hints of flavor of coffee and chocolate.  This beer is very sessional clocking in at 3.6% ABV.

Wynwood Flagler Saison

Flagler Saison is a limited release offering.  It is named after Henry Flagler, who is considered to be the father of our beloved city of Miami.  This brew has a spicy and fruity aroma with a nice light mouth feel.  It is highly carbonated with a soft malt character and fruity yet spicy flavor.  7.4% ABV

Lickinghole Creek Magic Beaver

Belgian beer meets American and New Zealand Hops, they live happily ever after.  Named after the Magic Beaver pond on the farm's property, LCCB's Pale Ale is a combination of Belgian Pilsner Malt, authentic Belgian yeast and and American and New Zealand hops.  Delicious and easy to drink.  5.5 % ABV

Lickinghole Creek Short Pump Saison

Our ode to Belgian Farmhouse Ale.  The Short Pump name comes from the colonial era Short Pump Tavern, a famous mid-way point between Richmond and Charlottesville. Lickinghole Creek's Saison matches Premium Imported Belgian Pilsner Malt with two types of Rye.  First Wort Hopped (an old German brewing technique) with American Grown Galena Hops and Hop Bursted (a newer American technique) with large amounts of Columbus and Nugget hops.  The combination of the malt, rye and hops creates a beer with a distinguished hop aroma, a more undeviating bitterness and a more balanced beer. 6.8 % ABV

Lickinghole Creek Three Chopt Tripel

The Three Chopt name comes from a nearby colonial era trail marked by three hatchet marks on a tree.  LCCB's Tripel is a non-stopped hopped version of a European classic.  We use American grown sterling and New Zealand Grown Motueka Hops that help impart a lemon and lime characteristic with a hint of tropical fruit. Multiple hop additions throughout the boil create a textured, full flavor. 9.3% ABV

Peak Organic Fresh Cut

Fresh Cut is a dry-hopped pilsner. Chinook, Citra and Centennial hops provide aromas of citrus, grass and spice. Though the front palate is loud with IPA qualities, the finish is distinctly pilsner- crisp, dry and extremely refreshing. Enjoy! 4.6% ABV

Peak Organic Hop Blanc

Hop Blanc is a heavenly White IPA. Local wheat and Belgian yeast give this beer a soft mouthfeel, while Centennial, Simcoe and Citra hops provide a bright rush of tropical and citrus flavors up front. This beer is the cheery, angelic cousin of the more sinister Hop Noir. 6.4% ABV

Cane Vodka Florida Fire Ant

Small Batch Artisan Sugar Cane Vodka flavored with Jalapeño.

Rogue Voodoo Doughnut
PretzelRaspberry & Chocolate Ale

They say the third time's a charm, and this time the collision of crazies created a Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate ale inspired by Voodoo Doughnut's Voodoo Doll doughnut.  The Voodoo people say the magic is in the hole.  We think it's also in the bottle.

5.4% ABV

Blue Point Mosaic Session IPA

A light, straw-colored, West Coast version that showcases serious aroma. It features Mosaic, Simcoe, and Centennial hops that lend strong tropical fruit characteristics to a light body and dry finish. You won't be able to drink just one - and with less than 5% ABV, you don't have to.

Stone Mixed 12 Pack

The Stone Mixed 12 Pack features three 12-ounce bottles of four beloved Stone year-round releases: Stone IPA, Stone Levitation Ale, Stone Ruination IPA and OAKED Arrogant Bastard Ale.

BEER NEWS

Candy company Lollyphile has given us quite a few less-than-appetizing suckables in the past (blue cheese or breast milk lollipop, anyone?), but their newest creation comes at the request of the masses. Your beer flavored lollipop has arrived.

The same confectionary-concocting madmen who gave us the Sriracha lollipopare releasing their newest offering in three different flavors of brew-IPA, Lager, and Stout. According to Lollyphile's owner, Jason Darling:

We tried our best to stay true to each of these varieties, Stout being big & dark, IPA being hoppy as hell, and Lager based on our favorite Pilsner. It was, to say the least, a very fun flavor matching experience.

Beer spills into history books

Beer is so significant in Oregon that somebody should make a historical collection so future generations can study the details of the state's current frothy culture - including, for example, the Cascade aromatic hop used to make beers such as Total Domination or Hammerhead.

At least that's the thinking behind the Oregon Hops & Brewing Archives founded recently at Oregon State University.

"We live in an important moment historically that is reclaiming craft beer heritage and culture," said Peter Kopp, an agricultural historian at New Mexico State University and an unofficial adviser to the OSU project.

People 100 years from now may find in the archives the answer to why Americans drank pale, mass-produced beer for so long in the 20th century - and then switched rapidly to craft brews.

2014 Guide to Craft Beer at Great American Ballpark

By: ManBearPig with SB Nation

As opposed to the actual baseballing team that takes the field at Great American, there were a lot of exciting changes this offseason with the beer at GABP. First, and most notably, is the Brewery District Bar. This 85 foot beauty runs between sections 117 and 118, down the 3rd base line, and highlights local brewing in Cincinnati. It's pretty amazing how quickly Cincinnati went from a town with almost no beer scene, to a place with a bunch of great breweries putting out quality product. The locals get their moment in the spotlight at the Brewery District Bar with 8 of the 23 beers coming from Cincinnati breweries.

Beer Caramel Corn with Pretzels & Pecans

By He Cooks She Cooks

Ingredients

1/2 cup un popped popcorn

1/2 cup coconut or peanut or canola oil

1-2 cups chopped pecans

1/2 cups pretzels

12 oz bottle Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan beer

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 cups brown sugar

1 cup heavy (whipping) cream

heavy pinch salt

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Directions

Preheat oven to 250°F.

In a large pot, heat oil over high heat. Add the un-popped popcorn. Cover. Moving the pan constantly, and slightly venting the lid, pop the corn.

Remove from heat, discard un-popped kernels and place in a large baking pan.

Add the pecans and pretzels and keep warm in the preheated oven.

Add beer and butter to a sauce pan and bring to a low boil. Let reduce by 1/4.

Add sugar and let boil for about 10 minutes, till it is like thick syrup (a small bit of the caramel dropped in cold water will form a ball).

Slowly add the cream and stir to incorporate. Cook for about 5 minutes till caramel is thick.

Remove from heat and add the salt, vanilla and baking soda. The caramel will foam up.

Remove pan of popcorn from the oven and pour caramel over. Mix till everything is well coated. Return to oven and let bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.

To check for doneness, take a few kernels out of the pan and allow to cool. If the caramel is not sticky after a few minutes it is done.

Remove pan from oven and spread caramel corn mixture out on parchment paper to cool.

If you do not eat it all immediately, store in an air tight container.
