LIQUID DESSERT
I have recently rediscovered my love for sweet, smooth dessert beer. There is nothing quite like a deliciously decadent brew rolling over your tongue, even in the warmer months here in Florida.
The popularity of dessert beer is really growing, as well as the flavors. You can find them ranging from double dark chocolate with banana and peanut butter to coffee, depending on your taste or should I say sweet tooth.
Some of my favorites include:
Porters - Rich but very drinkable, many porters taste of chocolate and coffee and have a subtle sweetness. Pour over some of your favorite ice cream for a grown up "beer float"!
Framboise - Ideal for those who are looking for something a bit more tart for dessert. Sweet with a good pucker, this fruity brew will certainly please!
Feel free to share on our Facebook and Twitter pages your favorite dessert beers...we want to know!
Cheers!

Lickinghole Creek Magic Beaver
Belgian beer meets American and New Zealand Hops, they live happily ever after. Named after the Magic Beaver pond on the farm's property, LCCB's Pale Ale is a combination of Belgian Pilsner Malt, authentic Belgian yeast and and American and New Zealand hops. Delicious and easy to drink.
5.5% ABV

Lickinghole Creek Short Pump Saison
An ode to Belgian Farmhouse Ale. The Short Pump name comes from the colonial era Short Pump Tavern, a famous mid-way point between Richmond and Charlottesville. Lickinghole Creek's Saison matches Premium Imported Belgian Pilsner Malt with two types of Rye. First Wort Hopped (an old German brewing technique) with American Grown Galena Hops and Hop Bursted (a newer American technique) with large amounts of Columbus and Nugget hops. The combination of the malt, rye and hops creates a beer with a distinguished hop aroma, a more undeviating bitterness and a more balanced beer. Limited quantities of this one! 6.8% ABV
|
Lickinghole Creek Three Chopt Triple
The Three Chopt name comes from a nearby colonial era trail marked by three hatchet marks on a tree. LCCB's Tripel is a non-stopped hopped version of a European classic. We use American grown Sterling and New Zealand grown Motueka hops that help impart a lemon and lime characteristic with a hint of tropical fruit. Multiple hop additions throughout the boil create a textured, full flavor. 9.8% ABV Bottled versions are 100% Bottle Conditioned in our Warm Room.

Rogue Voodoo Doughnut: Third Edition
They say the third time's a charm, and this time the collision of crazies created a Pretzel, Raspberry & Chocolate ale inspired by Voodoo Doughnut's Voodoo Doll doughnut. The Voodoo people say the magic is in the hole. We think it's also in the bottle. 6.75% ABV

Peak Organic Hop Blanc
Hop Blanc is a heavenly White IPA. Local wheat and Belgian yeast give this beer a soft mouthfeel, while Centennial, Simcoe and Citra hops provide a bright rush of tropical and citrus flavors up front. This beer is the cheery, angelic cousin of the more sinister Hop Noir. 6.4% ABV
|
Peak Organic Fresh Cut
Fresh Cut is a dry-hopped pilsner. Chinook, Citra and Centennial hops provide aromas of citrus, grass and spice. Though the front palate is loud with IPA qualities, the finish is distinctly pilsner- crisp, dry and extremely refreshing. 4.6% ABV

Stone Brewing Variety Pack
Fans in select markets nationwide can purchase a pack of twelve 12-ounce beers featuring Stone IPA, Stone Ruination IPA, Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale. This is the first time these four beers have been included in one case box, but that's not the only historically significant aspect of the pack. For the first time ever, Arrogant Bastard Ale will be sold in 12-ounce bottles, as opposed to the 22-ounce bottles that have housed this belligerently bold American strong ale for the past 16 years. Although it's tough to imagine this much liquid arrogance fitting inside a more diminutive bottle, the craft beer company has made it a reality via the Stone Mixed 12 Pack.

Cane Vodka Florida Fire Ant
The Latest flavor from Brandon, FL is the new Fire Ant jalapeno flavored vodka. Take a walk on the spicy side and give your Bloody Mary's or Moscow Mules a kick!

Ommegang Game of Thrones:
Fire and Blood
Fire and Blood has a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy off-white head. Aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt and slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character. A fruity, sweetish malt taste gives way to faint drying provided by the hops and rye. Underlying flavors of raisin and prune from the ancho chilies give way to a balanced malty and spicy finish. To celebrate the rebirth of dragons, three different labels were created by the Game of Thrones visual effects specialists, each depicting one of Daenerys' feared dragons. Randomly distributed amongst the cases, each case will contain all three bottles. 6.8% ABV

Uinta 21st Birthday Suit
Sour Farmhouse Ale
In celebration of their 21st anniversary in brewing, Uinta Brewing Company will be celebrating with a Sour Farmhouse Ale. This is the third release of Uinta's Birthday Suit, a brand developed to rotate in style and to be released annually in commemoration of another year brewing. While the Birthday Suit brand was not developed to be a 'sour brand', the tradition, thus far, has carried on. This year's rendition of Birthday Suit is an unfiltered sour farmhouse ale that showcases a mix of underlying spice, zest and moderate tartness. Crisp and refreshing, Birthday Suit lets it all hang out with a citrusy sourness that is worth celebrating. 6.3% ABV

Stone Go To IPA
Since Day One, we've been abundantly forthright and fully transparent about our lust for hops. It's led us to craft many an IPA, most of them imperial-some intense for their time and all timeless in their intensity. For Stone Go To IPA, we are embracing our hop obsession in a new way, funneling an abundance of lupulin-borne bitterness into a "session" IPA delivering all the fruity, piney character of a much bigger IPA. To accomplish this, we employed "hop bursting," a new technique wherein an irrational amount of hops is added during the final phase of the brewing process to coax out extreme flavors and aromas while also imparting a burst of desirably pleasant bitterness. The result is an Alpha-acid-rich beer that fans can enjoy more of without missing out on the assertive hop character you, like us, crave. So, sit back and go two with your new everyday go-to IPA and bask along with us in the glory of the almighty hop. 4.5% ABV

Founders Curmudgeon Old Ale
Think classic seafaring ports, local pubs, and weathered old fishermen. This old ale is brewed with molasses and an insane focus on the malt bill, then oak-aged. The result is a strong, rich, malty delight that's deceptively smooth and drinkable. 9.8% ABV

Beer Marinade Reduces BBQ Cancer Chemicals
By: Tim Wall of Discovery News
This summer when I soak bratwursts in stout beer, I'll say it's for the health benefits. Beer-bathed pork formed fewer potentially cancerous chemicals than non-marinaded pork when grilled close to hot charcoal in a recent experiment by Portuguese and Spanish chemists.
Black beer, like a stout or porter, proved more effective than pilsners at preventing the formation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), worrisome chemicals formed in smoked and grilled fatty meats. The European Union regulates levels of PAHs as potential carcinogens, following concerns raised in a 2002 report by the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Food.

Whole Foods Is About To Start Brewing
By: Joe Satran of HuffPost Taste
North America's 360-some Whole Foods Markets already sell beer made by more than 500 different breweries. But one location set to open on Houston's Post Oak Boulevard this summer plans to pour beer under a label never before sold at Whole Foods, or anywhere else: its own.
Last week, the Austin-based supermarket chain started soliciting applications for a brewmaster to head a brewery at the new location -- a first for the company and, perhaps, for the American supermarket industry. Though several other grocery chains sell their own beer, they usually subcontract the actual brewing of the liquid to outside companies.

Sea Dog Brewing Co. Officially Open in Clearwater
"Demand for Shipyard and Sea Dog beer here in Florida has been very strong and the craft beer movement continues to grow," said owner Fred Forsley, who opened the Clearwater location in February 2013. "We are very excited to be part of that growth and to be brewing in Florida again."
Using the 20-barrel brewing system from the Shipyard Brewport, which used to operate at the Orlando International Airport as the world's first airport microbrewery, head brewer Bobby Baker is in charge of producing award-winning beer from Sea Dog and Shipyard Brewing companies as well as special limited edition brews only available at the pub. The goal is to produce 10,000 barrels annually with room for expansion.
