I am amazed every time that I write this intro with the sheer number of events that are occurring all over South Florida. You can find a beer tasting or tap takeover almost every day of the week. With this many beer events happening all the time, it can be difficult to keep up. And that also wouldn't be very healthy anyways. These days you have to pick and choose. So, I was trying to think of some general rules to use to determine what to go to and what not....
Certainly location is of high priority...there will be alcohol involved and we all know where that can lead to if you aren't careful. But with so many events...there is a variety to choose from in every location. That doesn't help making the decision easier.
Priority number #2 - Great beer! What's the use if there isn't something delicious involved. Of course there is usually something tasty and awesome these days at every event...so that doesn't rule much out either.
Which brings up Priority #3...It should be fun! Uh oh...that is not going to rule out many events either. We are talking about beer and beer by it's very nature is fun. The camaraderie, the joking around, the socializing, the beer! It seems all these aspects occur at any good gathering of craft beer drinkers.
So what about inventiveness? Sure...you been to tap takeovers...how inventive is that? Except when they have multiple rare beers that you've never had....which is many of them these days. And now we've got multiple breweries batting it out....beer vs. beer. What happened to beer vs. wine? Did that get old? Oh wait...there is one of those coming up too.
Of course you can't miss out on a good beer festival! But not only beer festivals are serving great craft beer. There are all kinds of local food and ethnic festivals going on every weekend...and guess what? Great beer there too. Well, all I can say is at the end of the day is it seems you really can't rule out most of these events based on any of the above criteria. You may not be able to make them all so you are going to have to find a different way to figure out which ones you can attend.
Soooo..... I'll see all of you later?? Adam Fine Director of Hoperations |

Greening New York City, One Craft Beer at a Time
By: Beth Buczynski
When we talk about efforts to infuse more green, open space into dense urban areas, craft beer never enters the conversation. Unless members of the conversation are reaching for one to grease the wheels of innovation.
A new start-up out of Brooklyn, N.Y., is out to prove that one has more to do with the other than we may think. Caleb Freese and Julian Hensarling, founders of Thousands Win, plan to increase green space and brew a "farm-to-bottle" beer all in the same entrepreneurial endeavor. The pair have developed a super-lightweight green roof system that will facilitate the farming of hops, a key ingredient in beer, on Brooklyn rooftops.

Beer drinking has just gotten cooler... and geekier
By: Chris Smith
Beer aficionados who also share a passion for Android mobile devices may be interested in backing a Kickstarter project that aims to leverage the power of mobile devices to improve home cool beer drinking experiences. The Kegbot is a tablet-powered beer Kegerator that will keep track of how much beer is left in your keg to help you make sure that you're never in danger of running out during a party.
The Kegbot is a combination between Arduino, Android, and beer (obviously!) that will help users keep accurate track of beer consumption. What's more, Kegbot has a web interface that allows users to view and manage all their taps online, if that's a feature they want to take advantage of.

This Is Your Brain On Beer And Coffee
By: HuffPost Taste
We know for sure that we've had some of our best ideas over a few beers. We also know that beer rarely leads to us executing those ideas -- that's coffee's job. It turns out, these feelings we had in our hearts might turn out to be backed up by science!
A recent article asked whether coffee or beer makes our brains more creative. Ryoko Iwata from I Love Coffee decided that just reading it wasn't enough for the coffee and beer obsessed among us, so she created this handy infographic to help us decipher when to consume which beverage for optimal creativity.

______________
Featured Beer
Cocktail
Blacker and Tanner
This cocktail takes the classic Black & Tan-stout and pale ale-and cranks it up, blacker and tanner, with a double IPA and an imperial stout. You won't get the 'layered' effect, which comes from the nitrogenation of most dry stouts, but you'll get the blending of the big hops of the IPA and the burnt bitterness of the imperial stout. This cocktail is about twice as strong as a standard beer.
- 1 12-fl. oz. bottle double IPA
- 1 12- fl. oz. bottle imperial stout
Fill two chilled pint glasses with equal amounts of the IPA and the stout. Stir gently, and drink slowly.

Spiced Stout Waffles
By: Dula Notes
Ingredients: 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing the waffle maker 1 cup buttermilk or milk 1 cup stout 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 3/4 teaspoon sea salt 4 teaspoon baking powder 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 2 tablespoons sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon cardamom 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Directions: Melt butter in a medium pot over low heat. Add buttermilk and stout, stir and heat until warm. Turn off the heat. In a large bowl, add flour, sea salt, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, cinnamon and cardamom. Whisk to combine.
In another large bowl, whisk eggs until well beaten. Add vanilla and whisk to combine. Pour about one cup of the butter/buttermilk/beer mixture into the eggs and whisk vigorously to combine. Pour the rest of the warm butter/buttermilk/beer mixture into the bowl while whisking constantly.
Add the liquid mixture to the dry mixture and stir with a wooden spoon until the flour disappears, but the batter is still a little lumpy. Take care not overmix, but make sure the flour is incorporated. Let the batter sit as your waffle iron heats up.
Spread a thin coat of butter on the preheated waffle iron to prevent the waffles from sticking. Pour batter into the waffle iron and cook until waffles are golden brown. Serve immediately with real maple syrup.
