BOO! Did I scare you? It's that time of year when all the ghost and ghouls come out for a little party fun. Trick or Treaters will be roaming the streets in a few days with many of their parents in tow. So with all your candy and treats, why not have some adult treats available like a good Pumpkin beer for the adult crowd? Just remember to ID that Casper...you wouldn't want to promote underage drinking to the dead set. And as the weather finally starts dipping...we are starting to see the winter beers pop up. So this will be your last chance to get any of your favorite fall seasonal beers whether it be a Pumpkin or Oktoberfest. They will soon be replaced on the shelf with a Winter Warmer, Stout, Porter or other spiced type of beer. Happy Halloween!

Belgian Brewery Buys U.S. Maker of Craft Beers
As European interest in American craft beers begins to mirror the mania for them stateside, the Duvel Moortgat Brewery of Belgium on Thursday announced a deal to buy the Boulevard Brewing Company, a craft brewery in Kansas City, Mo.
The acquisition of Boulevard will give Duvel, pronounced DOO-vel, ownership of a large United States craft brewer that is well known in the Midwest and produces a wide variety of beers under its own name and others. Boulevard's brands range from 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer, described as citrusy with a slightly sweet flavor and light bitterness, to Dark Truth Stout, an "inky" beer with hints of chocolate, coffee and fruits.

County brewers are star players in GABF's successful run
By: Tom Wilmes
Now that the beer has stopped flowing, the pretzel necklaces have been consumed and the medals handed out at the 32nd annual Great American Beer Festival, held over three days last week at the Colorado Convention Center, it's time to sit back, crack open a locally brewed craft beer and reflect on the action. Rather than write a compile best-of list -- although there were more excellent and inventive beers pouring at the festival this year than ever before -- I wanted to focus on a couple of questions I heard repeatedly during the event. Man Drops 14 Pounds by Only Drinking Beer and Eating Sausages

By: Charisma Madarang
Inspired by Oktoberfest's boozy shindigs, Arizona resident Evo Terra managed to shed 14 pounds last year by living off a diet of beer and sausages. Terra began the dream peculiar diet three years ago, which consists of two sausages and up to six beers a day - about 15,000 calories per week.
"Most of it was body fat," says Terry Simpson, Terra's doctor. "His cholesterol went down by a third." Simpson monitors Terra's health and assures non-believers that if the diet ever proved harmful, it would be "shut down."

Featured Recipe
By: Bay Area Bites
Ingredients:
Scant 1 1/4 cup arborio rice
3 cups beer, Scotch Ale style
1 1/2 cup vegetable broth
1 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
1/4 cup sweet onion, minced
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons of salt
12 1/4-inch cubes of Gouda cheese
2 eggs
1/3 cup of flour
1/2 cup bread crumbs
Vegetable oil
Marinara sauce for dipping
Directions:
In a very large pan, heat the olive oil over a medium-low heat until the oil's surface shimmers.
Add the garlic and onion. Cook until they are just aromatic, about a minute or two.
Add in the rice and mix it well so that it is lightly covered in oil. Warm the rice for a couple of minutes. Do not allow it to brown.
Add the vegetable broth to the rice and about 1/2 cup of the beer, and bring it to a boil.
Add in the salt, reduce to a low simmer, cooking the liquid down.
When the liquid has almost cooked down, add in another 1/2 cup or so of beer. Repeating until all of the liquid is used up and the rice is fully cooked.
Fold in the Parmesan cheese.
Let the risotto cool then place it in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
In one mixing bowl, beat the two eggs and whisk in the flour. In a separate bowl, add the bread crumbs. Also line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Remove the risotto from the fridge and let's make some balls!
Place a small spoonful in the palm of your hand and using your finger, make an indentation.
Place a cube of Gouda cheese in the pocket and roll the risotto into a ball, adding more if needed. You want to make sure the Gouda is completely surrounded by risotto.
Then place it on the parchment paper.
After all twelve are made, put the baking sheet in the fridge and let it chill for about an hour.
Remove the tray from the fridge and then one at a time, dip the balls in the egg and flour mixture, removing any excess.
Then roll them in the bread crumbs, placing them back on the parchment paper and placing it back in the fridge when done.
Bring vegetable oil to 375 degrees F and carefully fry the balls until golden brown, placing them on a drying rack when done.
Serve with marinara sauce and enjoy!
