The season of darker, more full flavored beers is upon us. Right now on the shelves you can find any number of amber, toasty, roasty and richer Pumpkin ales and Oktoberfests like Shipyard Pumpkinhead, Southern Tier Pumking, Dogfish Head Punkin, Ayinger Oktoberfest Marzen, Blue Point Oktoberfest, and Left Hand Oktoberfest. As we pray for cooler weather, these beers pair perfectly with fall weather and football. We ever so quickly shift from the light, refreshing beers of summer to the more full flavored spectrum of beer.
As the weather gets cooler, the beers get darker too. Stout Season is upon us. All of the depths of rich, chocolatey and dark beers are coming and we couldn't be more excited for all of these fall and winter brews. There is something about looking down at pint full of black beer that just makes me happy. Before you know it, shelves will be full of these black beauties. (Side note: while we have both beers on the shelves, ever mixed a Stout and Pumpkin Beer? It's worth a try!)
We hope you're ready because we are kicking off stout season right with the launch of Founders Breakfast Stout on Founders Friday, 10/4/2013. Join establishments around the state as we celebrate the beginning of Stout Season, Breakfast Stout and all things Founders Brewing Co. You could even win a trip to Founders Brewing Co. for their 2014 Founders Fest. Get all of the details at FoundersFriday.com.
Whether it's a rich amber, black, brown or any other dark shade, enjoy these beers while they are available and celebrate their arrival! We know we will.
Cheers,
Ian Salzberg Minister of Beer Communications

Auto-Brewery Syndrome: Apparently, You Can Make Beer In Your Gut
By: Michaeleen DouclefF
This medical case may give a whole new meaning to the phrase "beer gut." A 61-year-old man - with a history of home-brewing - stumbled into a Texas emergency room complaining of dizziness. Nurses ran a Breathalyzer test. And sure enough, the man's blood alcohol concentration was a whopping 0.37 percent, or almost five times the legal limit for driving in Texas.
There was just one hitch: The man said that he hadn't touched a drop of alcohol that day.
