So the Hurricane season is only 5 days old and we already have our first named storm...Andrea. This does not bode well for us as it looks to be a very long season. Has anyone started their Hurricane preparedness yet? Or are we all going to be waiting in line together at Home Depot and Publix when the first storm looks like it is headed our way? What is on your checklist of items?
Flashlights and batteries? First Aid Kit? Duct Tape? Matches and Candles?
How about beer? If you have ever been through a hurricane, you should know this is one of those important items you need to have in supply for when the storm hits and after it knocks out everyone's power. You must have some just to make it through the 24 hour non-stop storm coverage on TV and radio or you are likely to run screaming out of your house directly into the rain and wind.
Then after the storm passes, you need some beer just to ease the reality of being stuck without A/C for several days. Of course, the beneficial side of having a bunch of beers in storage at your house is that all your neighbors will be first to help you clean out the debris on your property for a nice cold one. Not to mention when you don't have TV...you are going to need some friends around to keep yourself entertained.
So make sure to add this to your list. I suggest a bunch of great summer beers and the ones in cans are easier to store also. While you are at it, you might want to grab some of the higher ABV ones that might make it all the way to November which is the end of hurricane season. You never know when that storm is going to head in our direction. We just hope it makes a right turn at Albuquerque.

Funky Buddha Hop Gun
In a packed field of India Pale Ales, what does it take to pull away from the rest? To Funky Buddha, the answer is Hop Gun IPA. Lift a pint: from first sniff to last sip, their flagship IPA drinks like an ode to hoppy goodness. Galena, Cascade, and Nelson Sauvin hops burst forth with an unmistakably heady aroma. Flavors of grapefruit, honey, pink peppercorn, and pineapple mingle with a malt body that balances caramel and biscuit character with the kind of crisp, dry finish that pairs well with warm weather. 7.7% ABV (draft only)

The newest addition to their season sessions line is Maggie's Peach Farmhouse Ale. This refreshing summer offering has all the flavor and aroma of a freshly picked peaches (to the tune of 1,000 lbs per 100 barrel batch!) combined with the complexity of a well executed farmhouse ale. Big news in the world of '90s boy bands making millennial comebacks: The trio of Tulsa-born Hanson brothers is breaking into craft beer culture with an original brew called, wait for it ... Mmmhops!
The beer's namesake song "MMMbop," released in 1996 (that's almost 20 years ago), was recently featured in The Hangover III, and folks at the Rio de Janeiro movie premiere celebrated with the first taste of sonically-inspired suds, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. The beer is slated for release this fall in conjunction with a Hanson tour (uhh...) to promote a new album entitled Anthem (hmmm...). They'll be rocking the stage at House of Blues in Dallas on September 16.

Along with batteries, bottled water, plywood, and disgusting amounts of plantain chips, there's one other key ingredient on every South Floridian's Summer shopping list: beer. And since Channel 7 isn't going to be cutting to any live beer experts telling you what to have on hand when you're without power for three days, we polled some local beer gurus so you'll be the most popular guy on your block.
