Well the weather outside is delightful, and the winter beers are not so frightful, head to the store, to grab one more, gotta pour. Certainly not my best effort this year on the holiday jingle but I've done this at least 4 or 5 times and I can only say it is getting more difficult to come up with unique ones.
So the holidays are upon us again and all I can say is thank you all for once again supporting craft beer in Florida. Whether it is local craft beer or craft from outside the state, we have certainly had a great year and only have our customer to thank for it. So thank you!
Not to repeat myself from previous years but I do like to always look back at what we have accomplished this year outside of just selling ever increasing amounts of best craft beer you can find. This year we have participated in 150+ events including; Jupiter Craft Brewers' Festival, Key West Beer Festival, Grovetoberfest, Basal Biergarten, Brickell Brews and Bites, to name a few and had two distinctly different craft beer weeks. South Florida Craft Beer weeks inaugural week was a tremendous success and show just how far local craft in the Florida market has come and of course a fun and exciting American Craft Beer Week as well. BTW....be sure to check out Southfloridacraftbeerweek.com to see all the great events we have planned for January already including a Beer Bus Tour that is quickly selling out! And to cap it all off I would be remiss if I didn't mention again that we won the Craft Distributor of the Year from the Brewer's Association and the National Beer Wholesaler's Association. Not too shabby of a 2012!
So to cap it off with the final issue of the Fresh Beer Times of 2012, I want to thank all of our customers for a great year, all of our beer retailers for continuing to put craft beers into their stores and restaurants, all of our vendor partners for making great beer, all of our vendor reps for getting out and supporting not only their companies but also our company, and finally for all the great employees that I have the pleasure of working with every day. It has been a great 2012 and I look forward to a great 2013. Happy Holidays to All!!

Terrapin Liquid Bliss
Terrapin really loves a good experimental brew, but the salty-sweet combo of peanuts and chocolate will have you salivating a little more than usual. This brew, while smooth and mellow, still manages to challenge your taste buds. The porter base is dark and smooth, with enough backbone to support the richer chocolate and peanut butter additions. It's even dry "peanuted" with brewery-boiled green peanuts. Here's to the candy-loving kid in all of us! 6.7% ABV (bottle and draft)

Dogfish Head Birra Etrusca Bronze
The newest addition to the Ancient Ales family, Etrusca was born from drinking vessels found in 2,800-year-old Etruscan tombs. The two-row malted barley and heirloom Italian wheat is the backbone of this ancient ale, and with specialty ingredients such as hazelnut flour, pomegranates, Italian chestnut honey, Delaware wildflower honey and clover honey gives us enough reason to believe that on every Italian's dinner table, there should also be a place for beer. 8.5% ABV (bottle and draft)

Got a cold? Treat yourself to a cold one.
A new study, reports Agence France-Presse, suggests that a chemical compound in beer can help the human body fight the virus behind the common cold.
Of course, there are some important caveats. First, the study was conducted and published by Sapporo Breweries, a Japanese beer manufacturer, through its Sapporo Medical University. And secondly, an adult would have to drink about 30 cans of beer to get enough humulone, the compound said to have anti-viral properties.

You don't need to spice up a beer or put Santa Claus and wreaths on the label to make a great winter beer. Sometimes you just need to darken it up and give it enough kick to warm you.
Though it's a great time to sip the last of the fall's pumpkin ales and sample the first of the holiday season's winter warmers, this is also stout season. Though the folks at Diageo Guinness seem more than happy to let mainstream American beer drinkers believe St. Patrick's Day ushers in stout season here in the U.S., American craft brewers use this time of year to introduce their malty holiday porters, creamy sweet stouts and high-octane limited release imperial stouts.
