It's a Big Beer Week for Beer People
It's an exciting week for craft beer. "Why?" you might ask. Well, for Craft Breweries this is the week of The Great American Beer Festival or "GABF". For those breweries that have ventured out to Denver, it's the Super Bowl for Beer. This behemoth of a festival consists of 3 days (6 sessions) of sampling and hosts over 60,000 thirsty craft beer lovers. Every imaginable style and variety of beer is represented in one location. Not to mention the judging portion where breweries from around the country send in their best brews to be judged and compared. Many breweries' reputations can be made or broken by the GABF judging panel... Like I said, it's an exciting week to be a craft brewer. Best of luck to all of our breweries out there! For a little taste of GABF (a little closer to home) check out the events below for the Beer happenings going on this weekend. Great craft beer won't just be flowing in Colorado.
In other news, it's a big week for us as a distributor as well. Of course, we are excited for the few folks from Brown that have been able to go out to Denver and our breweries who are out there representing, but, that's not what I am talking about here. Starting at the beginning of this week, we have began representing some new and current partners in areas in North Florida including Gainesville, Tallahassee and Ocala. To say we are excited is an understatement... we are ECSTATIC about distributing these brands and know they will be a great compliment to our portfolio. For more details on what's going on and a list of these brands, visit our recent blog post here.
So whether you're a brewer, beer drinker or distributor, it's a good week to be into beer. "Damn it feels good to be a beer geek."
Cheers, Brown Specialty Team

Your Beermonger: Ommegang and the Changing Face of Craft Beer
By: ARLnow.com
By: ARLnow.com
My wife and I are taking a weekend to visit New York City this weekend. I don't get out of town often, and haven't visited NYC in about eight years so it seemed like a good time. Seeing as I won't be around, I asked Mike Berry from Ommegang Brewery/Duvel USA to fill in for me at the Arrowine tasting table. We've hashed out a tasting lineup that I believe reflects Ommegang's commitment to innovation and pushing craft beer forward.
Founded by Belgian beer importer and aficionado Don Feinberg in 1997, Brewery Ommegang has always been dedicated to producing classic Belgian-style beers with respect for the traditions and ingredients of Belgian brewing. Situated in Cooperstown, NY on what was once a hop farm, Ommegang set about establishing top-notch recipes and introducing Belgian-style beer to parts of America where styles such as Dubbel, Tripel, and Quadrupiel were unheard of.

A Vegetarian's Approach to Craft Beer Pairings
By Ashley Routson October 2012 Save for a few exceptions, most pairing guides and beer dinners are heavily focused on animal products-especially meat. In fact, dessert is often the only meatless course, sadly making most beer and food-related events unappealing and unapproachable to devoted vegetarian and vegan craft beer lovers. Although it has its place in the world of beverage pairings, meat isn't the only food worthy of pairing with beer. The spectrum of flavors and textures in vegetarian and vegan cuisine is considerably broad-making veggie dishes just as, if not more, suited for beer pairings than their meat-centric counterparts. But don't take my word for it.. For Full Article

After a mere five minutes on the job, an American worker has earned enough money to be able to buy a beer. We're #1!
The fabled American Dream has had a rough run in recent years: It's been downgraded, deferred because it's out of reach, and required facelifts, and the vast majority of Americans feel that it's much harder to achieve than it was in the past.
Perhaps most depressing of all, the American Dream has been chosen as the name of a megamall in New Jersey-a bizarre, messy, much-criticized boondoggle of a mall at that.
