A Holy Spirit Student Feature
On A Mission To Serve

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me...."
-Matthew 25:34-36
Holy Spirit is proud of our outstanding academics, athletics and arts programs - plus we have the distinct privilege and responsibility to serve others in both deed and prayer.

With both Acts of Kindness and Works of Mercy, the Holy Spirit High School Family is making a difference in the hearts and minds of each other and our community. Whether making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the hungry, serving the guests of the AC Rescue Mission, conducting a warm coat drive, or visiting the lonely, Holy Spirit Spartans are living our mission as a Catholic High School!

Pictured below are students who spent an afternoon with residents of The Shores at Wesley Manor in Ocean City, as well as the thoughts of Spartan Hayley McGeever '18.

Last Christmas, I experienced the gift of visiting the Wesley Manor Nursing Home in Ocean City with about 20 fellow Spartans. Mrs. Malecki and Mrs. Barrett led us the week prior to our visit in making cards and decorations to take with us.

Once we were there, we sang Christmas carols through the halls, visited and handed out our gifts to the elderly.
While this was no doubt a gift to the people in the home, I consider this experience a gift to each of us, as well.  My eyes were opened to people other than myself. It helped me understand just how many individuals there are, not just in our world but in our own backyard, that feel a little lonely and could just use someone new to talk with for five minutes.

Many of the people we visited shed a tear of joy and could not stop thanking us. Others were so enthusiastic they spread the Christmas cheer right back to us.
No matter who we talked to, by the time we left they had a smile on their face. This is what I think not only Christmas is about, but what all times of the year should be.

If everyone just took a few minutes out of their day to make another person feel cared for and appreciated then I think we would all be living out Pope Francis' message by making the world a better place filled with love, mercy and compassion.
After this experience, I know I will be more conscious of others. I hope one day everyone will understand this message and try to live it to its fullest.
