spotlightCorporate Spotlight - Target
By:  Crystal L. Van Der Putten, Livingston Law Firm, Walnut Creek, CA
From toothpaste to books and movies, from fresh produce to toys and tools, you can find pretty much anything you might need at a Target store - including diversity. Target opened its first store in Roseville, Minnesota over 50 years ago and in 2011 became a multinational company when it expanded into Canada. Part of Target's success over the years stems from the company's core values, one of which is fostering an inclusive culture.  Link

disreguardDisregard Diversity at Your Financial Peril: Diversity as a Financial Competitive Advantage
By: Sheryl L. Axelrod and James M. Payne, The Axelrod Firm, Philadelphia, PA
Supposedly the business case for diversity is weak. It's mainly "wishful thinking." That was the conclusion reached by the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession in its 2011 report, "The Business Case for Diversity: Reality or Wishful Thinking?" While the report considered many factors, it failed to look at the profitability of diversity directly. When diverse and non-diverse firms are compared in terms of revenue, profits, and customer figures, the business case for diversity is overwhelming.  Link
readyforanythingIs Your Company Ready for Anything?  Enforcing trademark rights in the new Internet age
By: Dina Leytes, Griesing Law, Philadelphia, PA
From the earliest days of the Internet, brand owners have taken steps to enforce their trademark rights and prevent bad faith actors from registering domain names that are confusingly similar to their legitimate trademarks. A change to the domain name landscape will require brand owners to revisit their online enforcement strategies. In June 2011, the organization that oversees the world's global internet, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), approved an unprecedented expansion of available domain names by creating a process for private entities to buy their own .anything online space. The first of these new generic top level domains (gTLDs) will start going live later this year.  Link
