Congratulations to Whitney Sibol, The 2013 Athleta "Power To The She" Award Recipient
The 2013 Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon was filled with inspiration. Indeed, each woman competing overcame personal obstacles and challenges to toe the starting line.
Whitney Sibol truly embodies what it means to be an Iron Girl. Whitney, a 24-year-old Baltimore native, planned to participate in the 2012 Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon. While training for the event, Whitney was in a horrific boating accident, landing her in Shock Trauma for a month. Determined to become an Iron Girl, Whitney registered for the 2013 race from her hospital bed! After more than a year of surgeries and intense physical therapy, Whitney competed and finished the 2013 Athleta Iron Girl Columbia Triathlon. She received the Athleta "Power To The She" award which honors one woman whose story has the power to inspire athletes and women everywhere.
Congratulations to Whitney, and to all participants whose courage and determination to overcome obstacles inspire us all!
In addition, a dozen charity teams raced to raise awareness and funds to support their causes. Teams competing this year included Team Embrace, Team Fight, Team Inspiration, Team Little Things 4 Cancer, Team WIN-THE-FIGHT, Athletes Serving Athletes, Team in Training, Team Colleen & Erin, Team Conquer Cancer, Cool Kids Campaign, Friends of the Lighthouse Shelter, and Girls on the Run. Thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of those in need. You can read more about all our charity teams on our website. |
