Thanks for Racing with TriColumbia at the 2013 Celebrating Heroes Triathlon
Greetings!
Congratulations on a job well done, and thank you for racing with TriColumbia at the 2013 Celebrating Heroes Triathlon. We hope you enjoyed the day, accomplished your goals and made memories to last a lifetime!
Thank you for helping us honor the heroes that make our nation great; from members of our military and wounded warriors, rescue workers and first responders to everyday unsung heroes, who go out of their way to selflessly lend a hand to provide hope and help to those in need. We are proud to provide a $500.00 donation to the charities of choice of the male and female Armed Forces Champions, First Responders Champions and the top First Responder relay team. Gene Severtson, the Armed Forces Male Champion, has directed the donation to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS). The mission of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is to provide, in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to members of the Naval Services of the United States, eligible family members, and survivors when in need; and to receive and manage funds to administer these programs. Susan Arnold, the Armed Forces Female Champion, has directed the donation to the Fisher House, which provides homes for military members and their families to enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time - during the hospitalization for a combat injury, illness or disease. Relay Team Don't Panic has directed the donation to the Don't Panic Foundation, which assists public safety personnel and their families after injury or death. Official race results and photos are available now. Both are also linked under Results & Photos tab of the Celebrating Heroes webpage on the TriColumbia website. In an effort to improve your future race experience, athletes have been sent a link to a short survey. Your opinion matters to us, and we appreciate your honesty, and the time you devote to telling us what you think. Now that you've crossed the finish line, please consider signing up for another TriColumbia event. Scroll down to review the rest of our 2013 event calendar. There are still a few slots available at the TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon taking place in Columbia, MD on July 21st. The Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon, an inspirational all womens sprint event is also still open, but filling fast. We'll be on Maryland's eastern shore on September 21st producing the ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival, offering 7 great events for all ability levels. We'd love to welcome you to Cambridge, MD when the temperatures are more forgiving! Take some time to relax and bask in your accomplishment! We look forward to seeing you again soon. Celebrate Life! Join Us at Another 2013 TriColumbia Event
There's still time to sign up for another 2013 TriColumbia event.
2013 TriColumbia races still open include:
- TriColumbia Kidz Triathlon - July 21st. Get your kids off the couch this summer to experience a healthy, fit lifestyle in a fun, family-friendly environment. Kids experience the thrill of a real triathlon just like their adult role models. The event includes chip timing, age group awards, professional photography, a post race food tent and party, great music and fabulous volunteers.
- The Iron Girl Rocky Gap Triathlon - September 8th - This sprint triathlon provides a platform for women to challenge themselves to be the best they can be in a pristine mountain setting. Women agree that there's nothing quite as empowering as an Iron Girl event.
- The ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival - September 21st - Taking place in Cambridge, MD, the same venue as TriColumbia's world renown EnduraFit Ironman 70.3 Eagleman Triathlon, this festival offers 7 great events to challenge all ability levels. Events include the Ultra Distance USAT Mid-Atlantic Championship event named by Triathlete Magazine as a "140.6 Best", the Skipjack 75.2, Aquabike, Bugeye Classic International Distance, SwimFest, 10 mile run and a Moonlight Marathon. You wont want to miss this event that takes place amid the beautiful Blackwater Wildlife Refuge when the heat of the summer has faded.

James Banks Crosses The Celebrating Heroes Finish Line Assisted by ASA
Congratulations to 14 year old James Banks who crossed the Celebrating Heroes finish line thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Athletes Serving Athletes. This was James' 6th triathlon in spite of being confined to a wheelchair.
James competed with the assistance of a team of dedicated athlete volunteers from the non-profit organization Athletes Serving Athletes (ASA) that included Jeff Munson, David Slomkowski and Greg Elmer. Munson, a senior vice president of RBC Wealth Management, towed Banks in a custom designed harness and raft during the swimming leg of the race. Slomkowski, the Founder and Executive Director of ASA, biked with James in a specialized bicycle, and Elmer, Associate Professor at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, pushed James across the finish line in a custom built racing jogger.
"A lot of the time, it's been tough for him,'' James' mother, Chiffon Edmonds, said last week. "It's tough having one of the city's great climbing trees right outside your bedroom window and not being able to climb it."
Over 5 years ago, James met Slomkowski, and he found kindred hearts in the volunteer athletes that make up Athletes Serving Athletes, a non-profit organization that empowers individuals with limited mobility to train and race in mainstream multi-sport events.
Many thanks to our heroes at ASA!
MORE about ASA
Congratulations to all Celebrating Heroes competitors who raced for a cause! Charity teams competing at the event this year included, Athletes Serving Athletes, Team Don't Panic, and Team Embrace.

Through the app you can share content with Friends on Facebook and Twitter, and opt-in to get timely alerts and notifications. Download the app today from the iTunes App Store.
Later this year, TriSpies will be launching their first mobile training app, providing virtual video training on actual race courses.
