The 30th Running of The Columbia Triathlon To Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society The 2013 Columbia Triathlon is full of new and exciting news! We are pleased to announce that in this, our 30th year, The May 19th Columbia Triathlon will be produced to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Maryland Chapter.
"We are honored and humbled to be included as the charity partner for one of the most prestigious triathlons on the East Coast," said Ryan Hatcher, Campaign Director for Team In Training. "TriColumbia is a top notch endurance event organization that provides a vehicle for us to raise much needed funds for the fight against blood cancer. In 2012 alone, Team In Training participants raised more than $140,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society while training for and competing in TriColumbia events. These dollars really make a difference and we are grateful to TriColumbia for their support."
In addition to being a 5150 qualifier again this year, The Columbia Triathlon will feature a Triathlon Club Challenge, which allows triathlon clubs to be represented by a minimum of 10 individual competitors (not relay teams) with a minimum of two females on the team. Top 10 scores (top 8 male & top 2 female for each team) will be averaged, and the lowest average score by a team will receive an award and recognition as the Top Triathlon Club!

Celebrating Heroes Offers Two New Challenges On June 23rd The 2013 Celebrating Heroes Triathlon, benefiting the National Rehabilitation Hospital, will further honor our heroes by offering a First Responders Challenge and an Armed Forces Challenge.
The First Responders Challenge allows first responders to compete with other first responders. Top individual male and female as well as top relay teams (male, female & coed) will receive a donation of $500.00 to their non-profit organization of choice. 2nd and 3rd place male and female first responders will receive an award. Receiving an award in this category does not preclude athletes from receiving other age group and relay awards.
The Armed Forces Challenge allows armed forces personnel to compete with athletes in 5 armed forces branches of service, as well as within their own branch of service. Top overall individual male & female among Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard including all active duty, National Guard and Reservists will receive an award and $500 donation to their non-profit of choice. Top male and female within each of the 5 branches will receive an award (with a minimum of two athletes in each category).
This event is a great first triathlon, utilizing portions of the Columbia Triathlon course. Join us in celebrating the birth of our nation's independence, and applauding the spirit of the American Hero. TriColumbia salutes the many heroes that make our nation great; from wounded warriors, rescue workers and first responders to everyday unsung heroes who go out of their way to selflessly lend a hand to provide hope and help to those in need.
Sign up today and celebrate your hero!

2013 ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival Grows The ChesapeakeMan Endurance Festival on September 21, 2013 will now offer three new events bringing the total to seven, suitable for a variety of skill levels and interests. New events include:
- SwimFest - This race is for those who want to brave the waters for 2.4 miles and then join the spectators to cheer on the other racers. The swim start is at the same time as the Ultra Distance and Aquabike events.
- ChesapeakeMan 10 Miler - Get in on the fun by running the ChesapeakeMan 10 miler beginning at high noon!
- Moonlight Marathon - Join Ultra athletes under the stars for 26.2 miles beginning at 5 pm. The party goes on until midnight with glowsticks and tiki torches.
Other events include the Ultra Distance (named a 140.6 best by Triathlete Magazine), Aquabike (swim 2.4 miles & bike 112 miles), The Skipjack 75.2 and The Bugeye Classic Intermediate Triathlon. Ultra Distance Age group athlete, Sharon H. offered praise for ChesapeakeMan, "I have raced 10 different iron distance races in the U.S. ranging in size from 47 finishers to 2500+ participants. This race is my favorite. The race organizers are super friendly and passionate about the race experience. They all seem to be personally vested in the success of each participant. The race organization is equal to or better than any other iron race of any size. Yet there are none of the long lines, hoop jumping, and other hassles of the big races. The course is a PR course and would also be a great race for a first timer. The beautiful bike course is very well-marked with very little traffic. I always felt safe on this course. The food is fantastic. The race swag is absolutely the best of any race in which I have competed." Click HERE for information and to register. |
